Two adorable dogs getting overexcited after their owner came back from a 20-minute trip have delighted Reddit users.

In the video, posted by user keeperofthecan, her two dogs can be seen "celebrating" her return by jumping on the sofa and doing "tippy taps." The post has over 14,500 upvotes.

One user commented: "That's forever in puppy time," to which the poster replied: "It might as well be! It's really rare for them to have the house with no humans in it, and everyone was gone, so I'm sure that made them a bit unsure."

Another user suggested the dogs may be suffering from "separation anxiety."

One of the most common complaints of pet parents is dealing with separation anxiety.

Dogs might urinate, defecate, bark, howl, chew things, escape, dig, or potentially hurt themselves. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) explains that "separation anxiety is triggered when dogs become upset because of separation from their guardians, the people they're attached to."

The COVID-19 pandemic meant we were all spending a lot more time with our pets, all of our time in fact. Not only did existing pets get used to being with their humans 100 percent of the time, the ASPCA report one in five households across America acquired a new pet who for almost three years spent all their time with their owners in a semi-lockdown state. It's understandable then that there are a lot more pets out there suffering with the condition.

A study from CertaPet found that while there may be many dogs out there experiencing separation anxiety, owners may also be suffering.

They surveyed 2,651 American dog owners and found that 47 percent of Americans across the country were experiencing anxiety due to being separated from their pet. They report that the national average anxiety rating is 2.90 and the states hit hardest were Arizona, where residents reported being 13.10 percent more anxious than the average, New York at 11.03 percent, and Virginia and Maryland tied at 8.97 percent.

The survey also found that on average Americans spend $157 a year replacing items destroyed by their anxious dogs.
