Donald Trump's estranged niece has said the former president's lawyers "are doing a terrible job" in a blog post listing a string of legal setbacks suffered by the 2024 Republican frontrunner in the polls so far this year.
Mary Trump was reacting to the news her uncle is selling off pieces of the suit he wore in his mugshot when he was booked in Georgia on racketeering charges, which she said is intended to "raise funds for his legal bills" in "a new low even for him."
Trump has been charged in four separate criminal cases that could complicate his bid to secure a second term in the White House in November 2024. He has pled not guilty to all charges relating to claims he orchestrated the payment of hush money to a pornographic actress, mishandled classified documents and broke the law while attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election result both across the United States as well as in the state of Georgia specifically.
Writing in a blog post on the Substack platform, titled "Donald sells the suit off his back, Mary wrote: "To make matters even worse for Donald, his lawyers are doing a terrible job. This year alone:
"1. In NYC, The Trump Organization was found guilty of 17 criminal charges, including tax fraud and conspiracy. Now, only damages must be decided. They'll be HUGE!
"2. Donald has lost BOTH gag order cases, and they are now in effect. Jail time in 3... 2...
"3. A federal judge ruled that E. Jean Carroll's defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump can proceed, after she already won the first case. And he's defamed her AGAIN.
"4. A federal judge in Florida fined Donald Trump and his attorney nearly $1 million for filing frivolous lawsuits against Hillary Clinton and others. But her emails!!"
In January 2023, The Trump Organization was fined $1.6 million in New York after two associated entities were convicted of 17 felonies including falsifying business records and tax fraud. Separately in September, a New York judge found Trump, his adult sons and The Trump Organization liable for fraud in a $250 million civil lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Trump has thus far been fined a total of $15,000 for violating a gag order imposed by Judge Arthur Engoron in the New York civil case, banning him from criticizing court personnel, which he unsuccessfully tried to get revoked. Separately earlier this month a federal appeals court mostly upheld a similar gag order imposed on Trump in his federal election interference case.
In May, Donald Trump was ordered to pay $5 million in damages after a New York jury concluded he's sexually abused writer E. Jean Carroll in a Manhattan department store in the mid-1990s, then defamed her when she went public with the allegation. Trump is continuing to strongly deny any wrongdoing.
Newsweek has contacted Donald Trump for comment via the press enquiry form on his official website.

Mary Trump also used her blog post to hit out at her uncle on Tuesday after he announced on his Truth Social website that those who buy 47 Trump digital trading cards, being sold for $99 each, will also receive a piece of the suit he wore to his Georgia indictment and could be invited to attend a gala dinner at Mar-a-Lago.
She wrote: "I know Donald. He has no shame and is equally comfortable putting his name of buildings, steaks, and fake universities. But this is a new low even for him—and it reeks of desperation."
Referring to the Mar-a-Lago event, Mary Trump later added: "Donald will sell access to anybody if they chip in a few bucks if it will help him pay the people whose job it is to keep him out of an orange jumpsuit."
