New York Attorney General Letitia James has issued a warning to former President Donald Trump ahead of his final court appearance in his civil fraud trial.

On Thursday, the final arguments take place in the civil fraud trial brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, accusing the Republican and top executives at The Trump Organization, including his adult sons Eric and Donald Jr., of inflating the value of assets to obtain favorable loans.

In September, Judge Arthur Engoron issued a partial summary judgment in the civil fraud trial, ruling that Trump and top executives committed fraud. The rest of the trial will determine how much the Republican will pay in damages, as well as rule on six other accusations—including falsifying business records, insurance fraud and conspiracy claims.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, James warned ahead of the closing arguments that "no one is above the law."

"Today, my office will present our closing arguments in our trial against Donald Trump for financial fraud," she wrote.

"For years, Donald Trump engaged in significant financial fraud to enrich himself and his family.

"No matter how rich or powerful you pretend to be, no one is above the law."

In a follow-up tweet she added: "Before this trial even began, the court ruled in our favor and found that Donald Trump engaged in this fraud and unjustly enriched himself and his family.

"During the trial, we revealed the full scale and scope of that fraud."

"We heard from many witnesses: Trump, his family, his employees, and accountants.

"Their testimony exposed the baseless values and fraud they used to inflate Donald Trump's net worth," she continued in a third tweet.

"In some years, Trump and his team falsely inflated his net worth by as much as $2.2 billion."

Newsweek contacted a spokesperson for Trump by email to comment on this story.

It comes as the judge involved in the case, Judge Arthur Engoron also barred Trump from personally making a closing argument at his trial because of missing deadlines during an email discussion in which he and Kise clashed over what the Republican would be allowed to say.

He also denied his request to delay the closing arguments in the trial because of the death of his mother-in-law, Amalija Knavs.

Aside from the civil fraud case, the former president and GOP frontrunner is facing four criminal indictments with a total of 91 charges, all of which he denies, and attempts in multiple states to have him removed from GOP primary ballots, meaning 2024 is shaping up to be a litigious year for Trump.
