Former President Donald Trump has told outspoken Meghan Markle critic and broadcaster Piers Morgan that he "overreacted" in an appearance after Prince Harry and Meghan's interview with Oprah Winfrey, which saw him leave his job as anchor on the breakfast magazine show Good Morning Britain.

In a transcript of an interview between Trump and Morgan recorded for the inaugural episode of his new show, Piers Morgan Uncensored, published by The Sun newspaper, Trump calls Harry "whipped" as well as saying he "disagrees" with Queen Elizabeth II not stripping the Sussexes of their titles.

Trump has long been an admirer of the queen's, telling Morgan, "she liked me and I liked her and she let it be known. She liked me and I let it be known."

The monarch and former president met in 2018 and again in 2019 during his formal visits to the U.K. On both occasions Meghan avoided meeting Trump which generated headlines as she was the only American-born, senior member of the British royal family. Harry met with Trump in 2019 at Buckingham Palace amid the then-president's controversial statements that Meghan was a "nasty" person.

Morgan has been a constant critic of Meghan in the press and on television since the time of her wedding in May 2018. Morgan claims that he and Meghan had a friendship when, as an actress, she was attempting to break into international markets. It is claimed by Morgan that the friendship was abruptly ended by Meghan when she met Harry.

Following the Sussexes' March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Morgan went on his ITV morning show Good Morning Britain to claim that he "did not believe a word" the duchess said and that he "wouldn't believe it if she read me a weather report." This led to a heated exchange with weatherman Alex Beresford who accused Morgan of continually "trashing" Meghan, leading to Morgan walking out and later quitting.

A spokesperson for ITV released a statement reading: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

On Morgan's actions, Trump told him, "I thought you overreacted by the way," adding that he "made it about [Beresford]," by clashing with him.

"What would you have done?" Morgan asked Trump in return, to which he responded: "I would have left but I wouldn't have attacked the weatherman. He wasn't worth it."

"You attacked him. He attacked you and then I would have handled differently, but that's okay."

Morgan's departure from Good Morning Britain was closely followed by reporters and led to him criticizing former colleagues for not having his back. The broadcaster claimed that he was asked to apologize for voicing the opinion that Meghan had lied to Winfrey in her interview during which, among other topics, her mental health was discussed in detail. The duchess personally complained to Morgan's superiors.

Speaking to Trump, according to The Sun's transcript, Morgan said "I've known you for a long time. Would you have apologized in that situation?"

"Well I thought you were right about the thing. I just didn't like the way you handled it. Is that okay?"

The trailer for the interview, which was recorded for Rupert Murdoch's new TalkTV channel in the U.K., appears to show the former president and Morgan in a heated exchange over the 2020 election with Trump telling production to "turn the cameras off," followed by the words "very dishonest."

According to The Independent, Trump claimed that, "Piers Morgan, like the rest of the fake news media, attempted to unlawfully and deceptively edit his long and tedious interview…He wanted to make it look like I walked out on the interview when my time limit of 20 minutes went over by an hour.

"The interview was actually very strong on the 2020 Election Fraud, with me calling him a 'fool' if he truly believed those results."

Morgan's interview with Trump is due to be aired on April 25 via TalkTV in the U.K. and Fox Nation in the U.S.
