Former President Donald Trump provided an update on his wife's possible involvement in his 2024 presidential campaign saying, "She wants to make America great again, too."

"She's gonna play, and she always did play a big role," Trump said during an interview with Fox News' Brian Kilmeade while speaking about his wife, Melania. "She was somebody that you could rely on. She's very smart, a very compassionate person...she wants to make America Great again, too."

"And I would rely on her for advice," Trump said. "I think she's going to be very active in the sense of being active, at the same time, I don't want my family to be too active because they did such a great job last time."

The comments by Trump come as voters in New Hampshire cast their ballots in the state's primary election, where the former President is going against former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, for the Republican nomination.

Earlier this month, Melania Trump's mother, Amalija Knavs, died at the age of 78 and a private funeral was held in Florida on January 19.

"My mother, the epitome of elegance and grace, exemplified the essence of a true woman. Her love for her husband, Viktor, my father; Ines, my sister; and me was boundless," Melania Trump said during the funeral. "Her nurturing spirit had no limits, creating a legacy that will last for generations. She showered her grandson, Barron, with affection, illuminating his world with love, tender care, and unwavering devotion."

Newsweek reached out to Trump's spokesperson via email for comment.

Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of the former president, also spoke about the Trump family's involvement in the 2024 campaign on Tuesday.

"I think he's a protective dad and I think he wants his family to stay safe," Lara Trump said during an interview with Fox News this week. "And unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who are targeting him and as a result of that, he feels like, I think, target his family.

"That said, we're here on the ground. Eric and I have been all over the state of New Hampshire today...we are gonna be involved because we care very much about this election," Lara Trump added.

During his interview with Kilmeade on Tuesday, Trump also spoke about his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump and if they will be involved in his campaign.

"It's difficult when you're in politics, you have a certain group of people that no matter what you do, they're not gonna to love you," he said. "But I think they were treated very unfairly, they had to go through investigations over nothing.
