John Fetterman trolled Dr. Mehmet Oz on Twitter, saying his rival for Pennsylvania's Senate seat recorded a video attacking Philadelphia's mayor from his New Jersey mansion.

Democratic candidate Fetterman took the swipe at Oz, a physician and television personality, on Thursday in his ongoing efforts to brand his wealthy Republican rival as having weak ties to Pennsylvania. The attack comes as Fetterman appears to be pulling ahead of Oz in the race that could determine the political balance in Washington.

The exchange began earlier when Oz tweeted a video where he called on Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney to resign after he expressed to reporters his frustration with gun violence and said he was looking forward to not being mayor.

Speaking in the video, Oz said Kenney's "lack of leadership has resulted in out-of- control crime and dangerous streets." Oz added that Kenney and Fetterman "put criminals ahead of the community."

"Pro tip: don't film an ad for your PA senate campaign from your mansion in New Jersey," Fetterman responded in a tweet.

Fetterman's tweet included images from a 2020 People magazine story about the New Jersey mansion Oz and his wife "built from scratch 20 years ago." The image includes text from the story stating the six-bedroom, eight-bathroom home had 12-foot-high ceilings. Another image showed a bookcase and curtains in the mansion that resembled those in Oz's video.

A longtime resident of New Jersey, Oz began voting in Pennsylvania's elections by absentee ballot last year, registering at his in-laws' address in suburban Philadelphia. After formally moving to Pennsylvania to run for its open Senate seat, Oz narrowly won the Republican primary with the backing of former President Donald Trump.

Currently the state's lieutenant governor, Fetterman has earlier sought to portray Oz as a wealthy, out-of-touch carpetbagger. In June, Fetterman tweeted a video comprised of old clips of Oz showing off his multiple homes, including one that was once owned by King George III.

Previously, Oz's campaign pushed back against charges of carpetbagging, telling Insider last month that he has deep ties to Pennsylvania, where he has his medical license and grew up in the Philadelphia area.

"He went to school in Pennsylvania, met his wife and got married in Pennsylvania, and 2 of his children were born in Pennsylvania," the campaign said. "He currently resides in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, where his wife's family has lived for a hundred years," said Oz campaign spokeswoman Erin Perrine in a statement.

A self-described "dude in shorts," Fetterman has portrayed himself as an unconventional Senate candidate. He is currently leading in the polls.

Newsweek has reached out to Oz's campaign for a response.
