Halloween is just around the corner, but it's not too late to look fabulous and completely ghoulish with an eye-catching costume.
If you want an outfit inspired by news headlines or to recreate an iconic film or TV moment, who better to ask for advice than an iconic drag queen?
Here, RuPaul's Drag Race alumna Alaska and Peppermint and Queen of the Universe star La Voix share their most creative ideas for costumes—and give practical tips for making the night fun.

The queens agreed that the recently released Hocus Pocus sequel, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy as the witchy Sanderson sisters, will inspire plenty of costumes this Halloween.
Alaska, the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 2, said she could not wait to see how people would drag up the witches' looks—but shared some thoughts on how to make the costume stand out.
"I am excited to see someone do the Yass-ified Sanderson Sisters … The three witches from Hocus Pocus get some beautifying makeovers and expensive hair extensions and really go for full Kardashian-level glam," Alaska told Newsweek.
La Voix also thought the Sanderson sisters would dominate this year's costume ideas. "Sarah Jessica Parker looked good as a witch, you can too," she said.
The British queen pointed to her home country's political turmoil as another possible theme. "If the worst comes to the worst and you have no ideas, just go as the next U.K. prime minister because that's quite scary," La Voix said, as Rishi Sunak became the third PM of the year.
Peppermint, a finalist in Season 9 of Drag Race, also suggested that current affairs could provide ideas this spooky season.
"Take the issues to the streets. The issues from the headlines should be turned into costume ideas, especially given how ridiculous things have gotten lately. It's almost like make-believe anyway," she told Newsweek.
Peppermint predicted that many people would again dress up as a handmaid from Hulu's dystopian drama, The Handmaid's Tale, complete with red robe and blinkered white bonnets. One of her own favorite costumes, she said, was when she dressed as a Hershey's Kiss.
For Alaska, it's all about the classic Dracula. "My favorite will always be Dracula because Dracula is beginner's drag," she said, before offering advice on how to pull off the best vampire. "White face paint, blood red lips, flowing capes, and exquisite jewelry. Get a widows peak lace front to really make your Drac pop."
La Voix added that if you're running low on time or ideas, just keep piling on the accessories. "My Halloween idea for this year is more! Go all out," she said. "If you think, Oh no, I am putting too much on, trust me you aren't."
Alaska also offered a piece of practical advice before the holiday.
"I have a feeling it's going to be very cold this Halloween. So, do like we did growing up in Pennsylvania and plan a costume that you can wear a snowsuit underneath. I recommend a cow or the Ghostface killer from Scream," she said.
Peppermint and Alaska are currently on tour in the United States.
