A rescue dog's reaction to being put on a diet has left the internet in stitches this week, with even his owner branding him "dramatic."
On Monday, Reddit user Kim—name changed for privacy reasons—shared the video of their dog Finny on the popular forum r/WhatsWrongWithMyDog where it has received over 11,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments.
Our pets needing to be on a diet is not unusual. In fact, VCA Animal Hospitals says that approximately 25-30 percent of the general canine population is obese, with 40-45 percent of dogs aged 5-11 years weighing higher than recommended.
Obesity has been found to shorten a dog's life expectancy and leave them more likely to develop diseases including cancer, arthritis, bladder issues, and being less heat tolerant.
Your vet is the best person to advise you on your dog's weight, which is exactly how this Reddit user discovered that their pup needed to be put on a diet.

Living in the Bay area with their rescue dog Finny who is around 5 years old, the terrier mix was recently told on a routine vet trip that he was a little overweight.
Kim told Newsweek: "The vet said he is a very good boy, healthy, but is a bit fat. They recommend no more table food, no matter how much he begs. Only a cup of dry food a day, and to make his walks longer."
But after beginning the new regime with her pup, it was clear that Finny was not impressed. In a video that has since gone viral online, Finny expresses his upset by dramatically rolling around in the living room.
"He is literally the most dramatic dog I've ever met and it's hilarious," said Kim. "He acted like he was limping until he got a treat. He learned how to do this roll on the floor fit when COVID started so I was working from home a lot. He would do this if I wasn't paying attention to him and he wanted belly rubs. It's his form of a tantrum."
In the comments, delighted Reddit users shared their reactions to the dog's dramatic actions.
"Sorry Finny you're a little bit chonky," said one commenter. While another wrote: "Seems to me like Finny is asking for a second opinion. I couldn't agree more."
Far from the only dog to gain viral attention after having a temper tantrum, another dog captured hearts in May when they were told they couldn't go out to the park. Meanwhile, a dramatic dog refusing to walk on a lead in a busy mall had people in stitches on social media earlier this month.
It turns out, Finny's behavior isn't unusual either. Kim said: "He does things like literally cries loudly and dramatically, for example, if I take my other dog out to use the bathroom without him. If he wants to go outside, he will jump up and down non-stop by the door. He is just the most hilariously dramatic dog."
Sticking to his new healthy journey, Kim did let the hilarious pup have a couple of treats after the display—but clarified that he definitely worked hard for them.
"I can't believe this went viral," she said. "It's not even him being that dramatic compared to him normally. He has the most hilarious personality ever."
