Braugher was best known for his roles as Detective Frank Pembleton in NBC's police drama series Homicide: Life on the Street in the 1990s and as Captain Raymond Holt in the police procedural comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine from 2013 until 2021.

Amassing 11 Emmy nominations and two wins throughout his career, Braugher is noted as one of Hollywood's most respected actors. His performance in the FX mini-series Thief earned him one of the awards along with his breakout role of Pembleton.

Braugher's Captain Holt was a fan favorite on Brooklyn Nine-Nine due to his matter-of-fact attitude, especially when working with co-star Andy Samberg's Detective Jake Peralta in a scene.

The beloved police procedural sitcom was saved in 2018 when NBC picked up the show 24 hours after Fox canceled it and sparked outrage from fans. It was canceled by NBC in 2021.

Actor Marc Evan Jackson, who played Holt's husband Kevin Cozner on the show, shared a tribute to his late co-star on X, formerly Twitter, Tuesday night.

"O Captain. My Captain," Jackson posted, along with a photo.

The X account for the sitcom, in which Braugher's Holt appeared in all eight seasons, posted: "Always our Captain. We love you, Andre."
