Award-winning teen drama Euphoria is back for a highly-anticipated second season. There is even more good news for fans—there isn't too much longer to wait with HBO confirming the show's return in its January 2022 release schedule.

Season 1 of Euphoria came to an end in August 2019 and fans have been waiting patiently ever since.

Newsweek has everything you need to know about Season 2 of Euphoria, including the release date, cast, trailer, plot, and more.

When Is Euphoria Season 2 Out?

The news Euphoria fans have been waiting for—for more than two years—has finally arrived. Euphoria Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, January 9 at 9 p.m. ET HBO.

Just like Season 1, there are eight episodes in Euphoria Season 2, airing every Sunday on HBO.

To watch Euphoria, you must be an HBO customer. You can also watch episodes via HBO Max, HBO's streaming platform. You can sign up to HBO Max from $14.99 per month now.

What Will Happen in Euphoria Season 2?

Euphoria Season 2 will pick up from the events of Season 1 and the two one-hour specials which aired in December 2020 and January 2021.

At the end of Jules's episode, "F*** Anyone Who's Not a Sea Blob" audiences learned Rue (played by Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer) reunited before once again going their separate ways, and sadly, Jules did not get the chance to apologize for leaving Rue at the train station back in Season 1.

As Season 2 begins, the state of their relationship is unknown but judging by the trailer, it looks like they are still separated.

The second season of Euphoria will also likely address Nate's (Jacob Elordi) sexuality and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and McKay's relationship (Algee Smith).

Speaking to Teen Vogue in July 2021, Zendaya teased some details about what fans can expect in the new series of Euphoria.

She said: "It's gonna be hard and it's gonna be devastating sometimes, but I think Rue really deserves all of that care when it comes to her character because I think she represents a lot for so many people.

"And I hope to make those people proud with our depictions of Rue [and] where all the characters go. I think this season's not going to be easy, though. It's not going to be a fun watch, I don't think. Sometimes."

In an interview with ET Online, Ali star Colman Domingo shared: "I would say from the work that I've done on the show, it was already a show that was getting under the skin. I think it's like a real sore wound now. I think it's sore and it has puss and it's a little ugly and it's messy. But underneath all of that, it's this painful, beating heart. And it just wants a hug. That's what I think [season two] is."

Who Stars in Euphoria Season 2?

Zendaya returns as Rue Bennett, a struggling teenage drug addict, in Euphoria Season 2.

For her role as Rue in Euphoria, Zendaya won the Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series, beating the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Jodie Comer, Olivia Colman, Laura Linney, and Sandra Oh. She also made history as the youngest actor to win the award.

Also returning for Season 2 is Hunter Schafer as Rue's love interested Jules.

Jacob Elordi returns as Nate alongside Barbie Ferreira as Kat, Sydney Sweeney as Cassie, Alexa Demie as Maddy, Maude Apatow as Lexi, Angus Cloud as Fez, Algee Smith as McKay.

Storm Reid also returns as Rue's younger sister Gia, Nika King as Leslie, Austin Abram's as Ethan, and John Ales as David.

There are also some new faces joining the cast of Euphoria Season 2.

Singer-songwriter Dominic Fike, Titans star Minka Kelly, and BMF star, and Demetrius "Lil Meech" Flenory Jr have all been cast in currently undisclosed roles reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Is There A Trailer for Euphoria Season 2?

Yes, there are two trailers for Euphoria Season 2 out there for you to watch now. On November 22, Zendaya shared the first-look teaser for Season 2 on her Instagram, alongside confirming the release date as January 9, 2022.

In the clip, Rue is seen dancing and singing along to "Call Me Irresponsible', by Frank Sinatra.

The trailer also teases some pretty brutal things to come, including Rue running from the police, an anonymous figure holding a gun, and plenty of violence.

Zendaya's voice can be heard in the teaser's voiceover saying: "When you're younger, everything feels so permanent. But as you get older, you begin to realize, nothing is. And everyone you love can drift away."

In the first feature-length trailer which was released on Monday, December 20, it is revealed Rue will be reunited with Jules but things are set to take a dark turn.

The gun from the teaser trailer is back and it looks like Rue may find herself at the center of a criminal case.

Thankfully, we won't have to wait too long to find out what happens next.

Euphoria Season 2 premieres Sunday, January 9 on HBO.
