Two Ohio teens were sent to the hospital after falling out of a third-story window at the school during a physical altercation on Tuesday.

According to a statement published by the principal of St. Bernard-Elmwood Place High School in St. Bernard, the two 16-year-old students were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"By now, you likely have heard about the incident yesterday which resulted in two students being injured and transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries," the statement read.

The school district is currently cooperating with local authorities to investigate the incident and understand what happened.

School Fights

According to Centers for Disease Control data, about eight percent of high school students had been in a physical fight on school grounds at least one time in the past 12 months.

The CDC also found that one in five high schoolers reported being bullied at school in the past year and more than seven percent reported having been threatened or injured with a weapon at school.

About nine percent of high school students reported skipping at least one day of school in the past month due to fear of bullying or violence.

Last year in another Ohio high school, nearly 100 students were involved in a massive fight inside the school which prompted a lockdown.

In February, four New York high school students were accused of coordinating an attack against their classmate in the school's bathroom.

'Met a Young Lady'

A grandmother of one of the teens told WXIX-TV that her grandson was having problems with a group of boys at the school.

"Ever since my grandson was transferred into this school, he told me that he met a young lady, and after that, he told me he's been texting her on Snapchat," Moffett said.

But ever since, Moffett said her grandson has been fighting with the girl's boyfriend and his group of friends.

A few days before the incident, she said she reported the fights to the school principal and asked for the principal to have a sit-down meeting with her grandson and the boy. But she said it didn't happen.

Moffett said that when she asked if he was okay he said "no." The teen suffered a cut from his left elbow to his shoulder, a sore back, and stitches in his right hand.

She also told WXIX-TV that her grandson will no longer be attending the school.

Local outlets reported that the window, which is about 15 feet above the ground, has since been boarded up.
