A sheriff's deputy in Florida shot a suspect multiple times after he allegedly broke into her home armed with an axe.

The Orange County Sheriff's office confirmed one of their deputies, who has not been named, fired at the man after he burst into her Apopka home after breaking down her back door with an axe. The deputy's children were also inside the home at the time of the break-in and shooting.

The suspect is expected to survive his injuries after he was shot several times in the lower extremities, Sheriff John Mina told reporters at a press conference. The deputy was then able to handcuff the suspect after shooting him.

"I think she did a great job," Mina said of the deputy, who has been on the force for two years. "She protected herself and protected her kids who were at home with her just like any normal person."

Mina said the incident must have been "absolutely horrifying" for the deputy and her children.

The suspect is also believed to have attempted to break into a number of other houses and made entry into at least one home before bursting through the deputy's.

The Orange County Sheriff's office did not confirm the age of the children inside the home. The department has been contacted for further comment.

"Our deputies are trained to protect themselves, protect our communities. And this person broke into a deputy's home with an axe and who knows what his intentions were," Minna added. "But anyone like that is going to be met with lethal force by our deputies and I think she did a great job."

Elsewhere, Orange County Sheriff's Office charged a 42-year-old woman after she allegedly zipped up her boyfriend inside a suitcase and left him for several hours inside. Sarah Boone is accused of the second-degree murder of 42-year-old Jorges Torres Jr. after his body was found on Monday.

Boone claims the pair were playing a game of hide and seek while intoxicated. She said they came up with the idea to place Torres inside the suitcase and close it fully.

She said she then went upstairs and passed out in her bed. She woke up several hours later to the sound of her phone ringing. Boone said she returned back to the living room and found Torres's body still inside the suitcase.

A digital forensic investigator with the sheriff's office examined Boone's iPhone as part of the investigation. Law enforcement officers then found two videos on the phone.

In one video, Boone can allegedly be heard shouting "For everything you've done to me. [Expletive] you. Stupid."

In another clip, Torres can be heard yelling from inside the suitcase "I can't [expletive] breathe, seriously." Boone replies, "Yeah, that's what you do when you choke me."

Torres was booked into jail without bond on Tuesday.
