With the 2023 NFL regular season over, Bill Belichick is facing a different sort of media attention. At this point of the year, he'd usually be gearing up for a deep postseason run. Now, though, he's potentially staring down unemployment after a tough season.
But Belichick-related drama isn't totally new to the Patriots organization. The new trailer for Apple TV+'s docuseries, The Dynasty: New England Patriots illustrates that rather clearly. There's even a jarring comment that alludes to a split in locker room loyalties.
Let's roll the tape and check it out.
New Docuseries Trailer Teases Brady-Belichick Drama

When it comes to big-time sports documentaries, part of the fun is seeing which guests are going to weigh in with their unique memories. Who could forget former President Barack Obama showing up in The Last Dance?
The Dynasty: New England Patriots won't have any shortage of talking heads:
"Featuring interviews with [Jonathan] Kraft, Belichick and Brady, the series offers unparalleled access to and insights from past and present Patriots players, coaches, and executives, including Adam Vinatieri, Drew Bledsoe, Rob Gronkowski, Ty Law, Bill Parcells and Jonathan Kraft; league officials and sports journalists like Roger Goodell, Al Michaels and Howard Bryant; and high-profile fans, such as Jon Bon Jovi, Bill Burr, Rupert Murdoch; and many more," Apple TV+ said in a release.
"The docuseries explores the franchise's 20-year journey, from the unique chemistry that fueled six Super Bowl wins to the internal strife that sparked a turf war. From the owner's suite to the locker room, the series reveals an insider's look at the road to—and cost of—greatness."
The docuseries explores the franchise's 20-year journey, from the unique chemistry that fueled six Super Bowl wins to the internal strife that sparked a turf war," Apple TV+ said in a release. "From the owner's suite to the locker room, the series reveals an insider's look at the road to—and cost of—greatness."
And while there's an appeal to those celebrity names—what will Bon Jovi say about the Pats?—the new trailer places two men we've heard quite a bit from at the center of the narrative.
It begins with a juxtaposition between Belichick and Tom Brady; the former says that no one is entitled to anything in the NFL, while the latter says that he was intent on proving himself in the pros.
Those comments seem compatible, but tension eventually surfaces. After clips of good times (Super Bowl victories) and some notable bumps in the road (Spygate, Deflategate and the specter of Aaron Hernandez), some different quotes are heard.
Danny Amendola, providing arguably the soundbite of the trailer, admitted that "We worked for Bill, but we played for Tom." That's immediately followed up by Randy Moss remembering how "Bill tore Brady's head completely off."
After a clip of Belichick throwing a sideline phone in frustration, we hear from Brady himself.
"There's things that are done that can't be undone," the legendary quarterback added. Owner Robert Kraft then explains how he was "trying to hold it together as best [he] could."
That all sounds especially prescient, given the state of the current Patriots. Brady, of course, left for Tampa and has since retired. Belichick could be on his way out; he could remain in the head coaching job, but it's possible that he won't retain the same personnel power. And even if nothing happens this offseason, 2023 provided a clear reminder that the hoodie-wearing head coach and his longtime employers are fallible.
There's no divine mandate for New England to shine on the NFL stage.
On February 16, Apple TV+ will pull back the curtain on the successes—and, as the latest trailer underscores, the tensions—that preceded this potential turning point.
