Foundation is one of Apple TV+'s most exciting shows thanks to its epic storytelling and vast universe, and it was renewed for a Season 2 as the first was still airing.
On Tuesday, Apple TV+ shared a new image from the forthcoming season of the sci-fi show, and also announced a whole host of actors joining the cast for the next installment.
Showrunner David S. Goyer previously spoke to Newsweek about how the second season would introduce things like the Second Foundation to the show's universe.
It will also focus on the team-up between Gaal Dornick (Lou Llobell) and Salvor Hardin (Leah Harvey) 138 years in the future, and see the Genetic Dynasty in chaos.
It is the latter that is the main feature of the first-look image shared by Apple TV+, as it shows Lee Pace's Brother Day in a tense conversation with Hari Seldon (Jared Harris) as android Demerzel (Laura Birn) watches on.
It is not obvious what the pair are discussing but the last time they met. Hari made a dire prediction for the Genetic Dynasty—comprised of Cleon clones Brother Dawn, Brother Day and Brother Dusk—if they didn't resign from power.
Pace, Terrence Mann and Cassian Bilton portray Brothers Day, Dusk, and Dawn respectively, and Goyer previously shared with Newsweek that the writers are keen to explore how much the Cleon clones have changed after learning they're no longer perfect copies of their maker.
He explained: "Part of the fun of the show moving forward, we'll be seeing how different the various Cleons are.
"It's part of the the jazz that we're playing with Terrance Mann, Cassian Bilton and Lee Pace, because moving forward, even though they're the same actors, some of the characters are going to be very, very different.
"And so one of the things that's exciting about this, this monkey wrench that's thrown into the Genetic Empire, is what does that do when you introduce chaos into that system? What does that do? Because chaos is fun."
