A recent post that Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot shared has resurfaced following reports that the third film in the franchise is no longer going ahead at DC Studios.

Gadot has portrayed Diana Prince, a.k.a. Wonder Woman, in the DC franchise since 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and she has appeared in two solo Wonder Woman films and The Justice League.

The actor was set to reprise her role in a third solo movie, with Patty Jenkins set to direct once again, but reports have now indicated the film won't go ahead.

According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, new DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have made a plan for the future of the comic book movie franchise and how things will all interconnect.

Jenkins was said to have been preparing for Wonder Woman 3, which was co-written with Geoff Johns, but the publication reported that Gunn, Safran and Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy felt it didn't match up with their plans.

The publication also reported that the movie was "dead in its current incarnation," which could indicate it may be revisited in another form, but no further decisions have been made.

Newsweek has contacted DC for further comment.

As a result of this report, a tweet by Gadot has resurfaced which she shared with fans on Tuesday, December 6.

In her message, the Red Notice star expressed her gratitude for DC fans and said that she was excited to show them Wonder Woman's "next chapter."

Gadot wrote: "A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman.

"I've been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I'm grateful for YOU. The fans. Can't wait to share her next chapter with you."

It isn't clear whether her tweet was related to the recent reports regarding Wonder Woman 3, however fans returned to the message to share their thoughts on the matter once the report came to light.

One twitter user joked her message had "aged well," while another fan responded to her tweet by writing that "Warner Discovery begs to Differ."

Despite the reports, some fans shared their hope that Gadot would still reprise her role as Wonder Woman in future, with one twitter user writing: "You are one of the best among all actors in DC, I hope you continue playing Wonderwomen [sic]"

Another twitter user wrote: "You are our Wonder Woman. Thanks for bringing this iconic character to life for us."
