Despite movie theaters across the world igniting a war-on-suits when it comes to Minions: The Rise of Gru, as a consequence of a bizarre internet trend, teens have been calculating sneaky ways to get around it.

One group of teens has gone viral online after managing to disguise their suits under tracksuits, in an extreme length to take part in the trend amid the bans.

The trend, dubbed "gentleminions" by fans and the Despicable Me franchise itself, sees groups of teens attend the movie showing in full formal wear, and even smoking cigars. It's a trend that has earned TikTok users views in the millions as they document their ironic love for the movie, which started as a meme pre-release of the film on July 1.

Despite the trend taking over online, it's not so supported in-person and various movie theaters have out-right bans on wearing formal wear to see the movie. Movie theaters claim that teens have shown disruptive behavior while taking part in the trend, at times even throwing objects at the screen and upsetting other customers.

One theater, reported to be Odeon cinemas in the U.K., was the first to make its views clear, posting a sign last week warning cinema-goers about the rules. "Due to recent disturbances following the #gentleminions trend, any group of guests in formal attire will be refused entry for showings of Minions: The Rise of Gru. Thank You."

TikTokers, however, have refused to let the ban stop them and one group of British teens has shown the extreme lengths they went to still take part.

TikTok user @joel.evans13 shared their outing to the movie theater in a video that has been viewed more than 8.4 million times and liked over 1 million times. The video can be seen here.

The group documented themselves approaching the movie theater in casual clothing, including track pants, noting on-screen: "No suits allowed."

After purchasing popcorn and drinks, and successfully entering the screen and seats, they removed their outer layer of clothes, showing full suits underneath. The suits were then kept on to exit the movie theater.

"The gentleminons cannot be stopped," commented one supportive TikTok user.

Newsweek has contacted @joel.evans13 for comment.

This group of teens aren't the only ones left unpleased by the war-on-suits by movie theaters. Newsweek previously spoke to TikToker Stephen Healy, who gained over 11 million views on his video and dubbed the ban "absurd."

For Healy, there was no disruptive behavior and their attempt at the trend simply made other customers laugh. "There wasn't much reaction if I can recall because we walked into the cinema late because we were too busy filming, but I do remember some laughs and stares as we walked down the stairs," he said.
