A little girl's note to the tooth fairy has sparked a heated debate online over the amount she demanded in exchange for the gnasher.

The price paid for a tooth has undoubtedly increased in recent times, with an annual Original Tooth Fairy Poll conducted by Delta Dental Plans Association in January 2022 reporting that kids receive an average of $5.36 per lost tooth left under the pillow.

That figure represents an all-time high in the 24-year history of the poll and a 14 percent rise on the previous year, putting it at nearly twice the current rate of inflation. However, it's still some way short of the figure being requested by the child featured in a post shared to Reddit by Accomplished_Risk89.

According to the images shared as part of the post, which has been upvoted over 14,000 times, this particular kid is asking for a sum nearly five times the national average. The note reads: "Dear Mom/Dad/Tooth Fairy, can I please have 25$! I want more money than last time or else I will be mad!"

Her request left many online stunned. Azorianmilk wrote: "I was given a quarter in 1987!" with Puzzled-Improvement9 commenting: "Inflation be rough." Helpful_Individual_2 added: "I got a quarter in like 2006."

Drej191, meanwhile, was shocked at the girl's warning that "she will be mad" if they don't give her $25, telling the girl's parents they "better correct that attitude or she'll get out of line in the future."

Elsewhere, Fresh_Salamander_393 joked: "Can't speak for anyone else, but if I wrote a note like that to my mom I would have lost another tooth involuntarily."

One user, bkussow, who claimed to be a parent, wrote: "We gave my son 3 dollars and thought that was a lot." Another, posting as ShilaStarlight, offered up a slightly different perspective, writing: "I can see the humor in their note but I would respond with a toothbrush, $1, and a note saying the kid needs to brush their teeth more. When my kids act like a brat I give them tough love."

Haunting-Star2031 took things a step further, commenting: "If my child left that disrespectful, demanding note, they would be getting nothing but a note back giving them a life lesson in basic respect and greed."

GlitteringGlass was equally furious, posting: "This made me so angry."

Others felt the note was a sad reflection of modern society. BoMbSqUAdbrigaDe said: "Welcome to the sad truth of our future. The kid probably got the money and a new Xbox" while ladyinrred said "this is a problem with parents these days. They think their kid is being cute and whatnot when in reality they're being a little entitled s*** and need their behavior corrected."
