Giuliani Calls Reporter to Argue About Unflattering Story, Calls Her a 'Lost Cause' Before Admitting He Hadn't Finished Reading

After her interview with former New York City Mayor and President Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani was published Monday in New York Magazine, Olivia Nuzzi got a phone call from Giuliani to talk about the interview. Kind of.

"I just got off the phone with Rudy Giuliani," Nuzzi tweeted, "who decided to call me to yell at me after he read 'five paragraphs' of my story. He told me, 'it's useless to talk to you. You're a lost cause.' He then talked to me for another six minutes and said he'd go read the rest of the story."

"Giuliani is extraordinarily angry that I wrote that he contradicted himself after he claimed that he doesn't have any business interests in Ukraine," Nuzzi continued.

"The good news is Rudy finally unblocked my number," Nuzzi added. "(I'd been forced to talk to him on WhatsApp since October!)."

Giuliani had previously stated that he did not have any business dealings in Ukraine, to the point where he demanded an apology from Republican lawyer Stephen Castor for saying he did during the House impeachment hearings last month.

"Republican lawyer doesn't do his own research and preparation, and is instead picking up Democrat lies, shame," Giuliani tweeted. "Allow me to inform him: I have NO financial interests in Ukraine, NONE! I would appreciate his apology."

Giuliani seemed to contradict that in his interview with Nuzzi. "I've done two business deals in Ukraine," Giuliani said. "I've sought four or five others."

One of the business deals he wanted to do would have reportedly been a lawsuit against a financial institution that allegedly engaged in $7 billion worth of money laundering for former Ukraine president Viktor Yanukovych.

"I thought about it for a month, back and forth," Giuliani said, "and then I referred it to another lawyer. I did take advantage of learning a little about the money-laundering system first."

That lawsuit would not have included any of the alleged wrongdoing by former vice president Joe Biden or his son Hunter, but Giuliani did want to "figure out [if] they utilize the same money-laundering system for Hunter Biden."

During his interview with Nuzzi, Giuliani also took a swipe at his former colleagues at the Southern District of New York (SDNY) for which he was U.S. Attorney during the 1980s. While no formal investigation into Giuliani has been announced, reports have surfaced that the SDNY has issued subpoenas to some of Guiliani's business associates.

"If they think I committed a crime, they're out of their minds," Guiliani said. "I've been doing this for 50 years. I know how not to commit crimes."

"And if they think I've lost my integrity," he added, "maybe they've lost theirs in their insanity over hating Trump with some of the things they did that I never would've tolerated when I was U.S. Attorney."
