'Godzilla vs. Kong' Pre-Screening Leak Reveals Homage to 1962 Original

In 1962, King Kong was dragged from his island home to the Japanese mainland, where he faced off against Godzilla on the summit of Mount Fuji. In November, the giant ape will face off against the king of the monsters once more, with leaked descriptions from a preview screening of Godzilla vs. Kong suggesting the titanic ape will reuse one of his signature moves.

Anonymous leaks to fan site Godzilla-Movies describe the coming brawl between the American and Japanese giant monsters, as seen in purported preview screenings for the movie. Since the anonymous reports come from a pre-screening for the film, it's always possible the moment will be cut in advance of Godzilla vs. Kong's November 20 release—but the tribute is likely to be a crowd-pleasing moment should it appear in the theatrical version.

Amidst multiple battles between the greatest of the apes and radioactive lizard, Kong will pick up a tree and wield it like a spear, the leakers claim. Throwing a tree at Godzilla's face is a likely allusion to a moment in the 1962 original, in which Kong shoves a tree down Godzilla's throat.

While certain to play as an organic part of their tussle in the upcoming movie, diehard fans have been calling for a recreation of the original Kong tree assault throughout the project's production.

Director Adam Wingard even alluded to the moment on his Instagram account this past December:

Since no trailer has yet been released for Godzilla vs. Kong, most of what's so far known about the movie comes from rumors and alleged leaks. Previous leaks from Comic-Con previews and toy conventions have revealed other aspects of the upcoming face-off, describing the two fighting atop an aircraft carrier and potentially spoiling the introduction of a third iconic Godzilla movie series monster.

Officially, we only have the movie's description:

"In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity's fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans' origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever."

Directed by Wingard (The Guest, Death Note), from a script by Terry Rossio (The Lone Ranger, National Treasure), Godzilla vs. Kong will feature returning cast members from 2019's Godzilla: Kong of the Monsters, including Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler. The movie will also introduce new characters to Warner Bros. Pictures so-called "MonsterVerse," including Alexander Skarsgård as a geologist familiar with Kong. Additional cast members include Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Jessica Henwick, Julian Dennison and Demián Bichir.

Godzilla vs. Kong will be out in theaters on November 20.
