Brie Larson Makes Jennifer Lopez Cry at Golden Globes

Captain Marvel managed to bring "Jenny From the Block" to tears in a heartwarming moment on the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday.

Brie Larson who plays the superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was in the middle of an interview with Entertainment Tonight when she spotted Jennifer Lopez.

"Oh my God, I'm gonna cry," Larson said and began to tear up. As she was trying to compose herself, Lopez ascended the staircase to the interview platform, which set the actress off again.

Lopez greeted Larson with a hug telling her she was a "big fan" of her work.

But then Larson had a really lovely message to share with Lopez, and spoke about her role in the biopic, Selena, which won Lopez rave reviews in her acting debut where she portrayed the slain Latin singing sensation.

"This means so much to me. I saw Selena and it made me want to be an actor and you've always meant so much to me."

Lopez responded while holding Larson's hand, "Oh my god. Don't make me cry."

Larson continued: "This is a dream of mine so thank you so much. Your work ethic is so important."

Lopez, who was teary-eyed, then wiped away a tear when Larson spoke to someone on the red carpet who turned out to be her mom who was excited her daughter had the chance to meet Lopez. Her mom also got a wave and a "hi mom" from Lopez herself.

Fans reacted to the moment, which was shared on ET's X, formerly Twitter, account.

"She is so genuine and so sweet i love Brie," wrote user LisWonder1.

Lisa T added: "This is exactly how I would act if I saw #JLO in person........#GoldenGlobes2024."

X user lovejlopez1 posted: "I'm glad she could tell her cause if that was me I would have froze up."

Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan's film, Oppenheimer, and HBO's Succession were big winners at the 2024 Golden Globes.

Debut host, Jo Koy, faced criticism for his opening monologue in an underwhelming performance. The comedian was panned by those watching at home, while his jokes also fell flat with the live audience of celebrities and nominees in attendance.

"Yo, I got the gig 10 days ago, you want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up," Koy said to the audience who were not laughing at his jokes. "Slow down, I wrote some of these and they're the ones you're laughing at."

NPR media analyst Eric Deggans defended Koy on X.

"Jo Koy is a great comic, but i'm not sure he's used to working a showbiz crowd hosting the #GoldenGlobes," he wrote. "His monologue wasn't biting enough but also was a little too biting in the same moment. Tougher gig than it looks."
