Golden Retriever Waiting To Wake Sister Up Patiently Checks Baby Monitor

Some say owning a dog is great preparation ahead of starting a family but as a new bundle of joy arrives, it can be a nerve-wracking time for the parents.

You never know how the pet is going to react, but Baker, the 2-year-old golden retriever, has filled his owners with great joy as he has taken on a parental role over his newborn sibling.

His owner, who doesn't wish to be named, has recently shared a video on TikTok of Baker watching the baby monitor and waiting for the mom to say it's time to wake the baby up. The video then cuts to the excited dog wagging his tail at the baby's door.

The owner told Newsweek: "We were worried about how Baker would be with a new family member but he understood right away he needed to be gentle and watch over the baby so carefully."

The heartwarming video shared to @baker_the_englishcream has racked up 224,300 views, at the time of writing.

The owner said: "It took him about a day to adapt, he didn't understand why we were holding something so high in the air but after a day he understood the baby was a fragile little human that he needed to be delicate with."

It is clear to see that Baker idolizes the new arrival, so much so he has accompanied his owners every step of the way.

The new mom said: "Baker has been up with the baby for every diaper change and feed since the beginning. He was just as tired as we were as new parents and slept only when the baby slept. When the baby cries he runs to someone nearby to see if they can help. He cares about the baby so much and doesn't want to miss out on anything."

So far, the video captioned: "Baker loves being a big brother," has amassed 20,400 likes since it was posted on December, 17. It has also received more than 60 comments.

One user said: "We don't deserve dogs."

Another asked: "Why are these dogs the best thing in the world!"

A third comment said: "Dogs using technology now to guard and protect—so sweet. So awesome."

But no matter how kind and caring a canine is, U.K.-based welfare charity The Dogs Trust advises people against leaving a baby and dog unsupervised.
