Golden Retriever's Whining Over Not Being Allowed Alcohol Delights Viewers

An adorable Golden Retriever has apparently reacted badly to being told he couldn't have any wine with dinner.

In a video, which has garnered over 200,000 views, Goose the Golden Retriever can be seen licking a glass of white wine, while his owner can be heard saying "please stop licking my wine glass!"

On being told to stop, Goose looks mournfully at his owner and starts dramatically whining. The caption reads: "You'd think I told him he couldn't have dinner the way he whined." One user commented, "He just wants to relax with some wine!"

Clearly this glass of wine is reserved for Goose's owner, but why exactly shouldn't dogs have alcohol?

According to the American Kennel Club: "The amount of ethanol needed to cause intoxication varies depending on its concentration in the substance ingested. The published oral lethal dose in dogs is 5.5 to 7.9 g/kg of 100% ethanol. One milliliter of ethanol is equal to 0.789g."

If you do suspect your dog to have consumed alcohol you should look out for the following signs:

• Drooling
• Collapse
• Vomiting or retching
• Decreased respiratory rate
• Lack of coordination

Hillspet.com agreed and reported that alcohol is toxic to dogs: "Not only in drinks but also in syrups and raw bread dough." They suggest that if you think your dog has consumed a large amount of alcohol, or you're not sure, "alert your vet and get recommendations on how to proceed."

In the lead up to the holiday season, many of us will be having family and friends over for drinks and food, and Hillspet.com suggests:

• Talking to your guests – "If you are having a social gathering around your dog, make sure they all understand that it is not okay to give your dog a drink at any time. In the cases where you or any guests might be heavily intoxicated and might forget this advice, it might be best to lock your dog in a secure area away from guests to avoid any accidental alcoholic consumption."
• Don't leave beverages unattended – "If you walk away from your glass for some reason, make sure that it is out of reach to prevent him from taking a couple of laps before you return. Make sure to throw out or put any left over alcohol in the fridge before going to bed at night."
• Spills – "In the case of spills be sure to get your dog away from the accident as quickly as possible and worry about cleaning up after. While a wine-stained rug can be replaced, your dog cannot."

Users on TikTok were delighted by the pup's reaction to being told off.
