A video of five golden retrievers enjoying a film night at home with their owners has gone viral on TikTok.

The October clip was shared from Waterfront Goldens (@goldenretrieverdad), the TikTok account of five golden retrievers named Hopper, Zuzu, Dottie, Fray and Sherman. A caption shared with the post reads: "This is how we do movie night with 5 golden retrievers."

The video shows what appears to be five dog beds being tossed onto the bottom of a carpeted staircase. The beds are later spread out across a living room, with a different toy placed on each one. The footage later shows five golden retrievers sprawled on the beds in front of a television. One appears to be fixated on the TV screen, while the others are seen looking elsewhere, slumped over on their beds.

Two-thirds, or 66 percent, of U.S. households own a pet, including 65.1 million who own a dog, according to the 2023-2024 American Pet Products Association (APPA) National Pet Owners Survey.

The fact that the golden retrievers are joining the family film night in the latest clip is unsurprising. Almost all (97 percent) of pet owners in the U.S. say their pets are part of their family, according to an April 2023 survey conducted by the Pew Research Center. Just over half (51 percent) of these pet owners consider their pets to be "as much a part of their family as a human member," the survey found.

Americans were reported to have spent a total of $136.8 billion on their pets in 2022, according to the APPA. The most was splurged on pet food and treats ($58.1 billion), while $35.9 billion went into veterinary care and product sales, the APPA survey found.
