Grammys Ratings Nearly Eclipsed by BTS Live Video as Over 10 Million Watch K-Pop Group

BTS faced a disappointment at this year's Grammys when they lost out in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance—but the views on one of the K-pop superstars' live videos has come close to eclipsing the ceremony itself.

The dedicated BTS fans, known as the Army, made the phrase 'Scammys' trend online, as they lamented the group's snubs.

The band, who is bade up of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, was nominated in the category for their track "Dynamite" but lost out to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande who won for their collaboration on "Rain on Me."

BTS shared a video of them reacting to the announcement that they lost on Twitter and added "that moment," with two crying laughing emojis.

The group also posted a 17-minute live video on the platform VLive that has been viewed more than 10 million times—nearly matching the 12.6 million who tuned into to watch the premiere of the ceremony itself.

A tweet from the official Grammy's Twitter account confirmed that 12.6 million people tuned in to watch the award show which saw performances from Dua Lipa, Doja Cat and BTS themselves.

The group performed live during the show, from a set in Seoul, South Korea. But it is noteworthy that a 17-minute clip of the band managed to rake in nearly as many views in such a short time compared to the whole two-hour show.

BTS' live video was dedicated to their fans and featured a banner on the wall reading "'Thanks Army' with a bright, red heart in the middle.

"I'm happy whenever we do award shows because it also shows ARMYs that we are making something together. Member said this stage will stay forever," Jin said in the video, per the Hindustan Times. "We will work hard so that we can come back to Grammys next year. So ARMYs, please help us one more time!"

They told their fans from the red carpet: "We really want to see ARMY now and I'm sure ARMY are feeling the same emotions that we're feeling."

They added to E!: "So we'll be back with even greater music and good performances, even better music. We'll work hard for this next year as well and then we'll be back with great music and great performances that you can look forward to."

Group member Jimin also took to Twitter and shared a selfie with the caption: "Everyone, you've worked hard staying all this time to be together with us! Thank you for cheering us on, and it's thanks to you all that we've been able to have this unimaginably special experience. I want to thank you, truly, and I'm happy, ARMY ! I love you."

Ratings for the Golden Globes last month on NBC fell more than 60 percent from the 2020 ceremony while and last year's Grammy's in pre-pandemic 2020 drew its lowest ratings in history.
