At the moment, there has been no official announcement of a The Gray Man sequel.

However, the good news is, that The Gray Man 2 is certainly not off the table as the film is based on a New York Times Bestselling book series by Mark Greaney.

Greaney released The Gray Man in September 2009. It was the first of his books to feature the Gray Man, Court Gentry aka Sierra Six, the CIA'S most skilled mercenary.

The Gray Man was followed by On Target in October 2010, Ballistic in October 2011 and Dead Eye in 2013.

There are 12 books in The Gary Man series in total, leaving Anthony and Joe Russo with plenty of material to draw upon for a sequel, prequel or spinoff.

If The Gray Man 2 does go ahead and the Russo brothers decide to stick to the book order, The Gray Man 2 might bring to the screen the story from the second novel, On Target.

In On Target, an old comrade who he thought was dead reappears in Six's life. As a result, Six finds himself carrying out a kidnapping for the first time, not an assassination.

The Russo brothers have also spoken of their hopes to spawn a franchise off the back of The Gray Man, including a prequel focusing on Chris Evans' character Lloyd Hansen.

In The Gray Man, Hansen is a psychopathic former colleague of Six who leads the international manhunt to find him. Throughout The Gray Man movie, it became increasingly clear Hansen is unhinged, so a delve into his past would be very, very interesting.

Speaking at Common Con Experience back in 2020, Joe Russo teased plans for more than just one movie.

He said: "What we're doing on Gray Man that's different [is] we're not gonna answer every question in the first movie. This is being conceived as a series of films, and again, potentially branching out, we could follow other characters, but we're not gonna answer every question in the movie.

"So you're gonna finish the movie, [and] have a complete story, but you're still gonna have questions about the wider universe. And I think that one way to break the model a little bit is to not give the audience everything in one film. Don't have a close-ended narrative. Have an open-ended narrative that's [like] a chapter in a book."

Even better, The Gray Man star Ryan Gosling has expressed his interest in returning for a sequel.

Ahead of the film's theatrical release, Gosling told Netflix he would "love" to do The Gary Man again and even has his own plans for his character, Six, including revealing his indentity.

He said: "I loved making this film. I'd love to do it again. I'm hoping we can bump Six up to a name status at some point, just for his own sanity."

The Gray Man is out in selected theaters now and is coming to Netflix on Friday, July 22.
