Heartstopper is Netflix's latest teen drama that already has a huge following thanks to Alice Oseman's hit comics.
The show, which premiered on the streaming platform on Friday, April 22, may be new to some viewers but to those who are already familiar with the graphic novels they may well notice a few Easter Eggs hidden throughout the 8-episode series.
For those who are curious as to what those Easter Eggs are, and where to spot them, Newsweek can share where and when you can see them.
**Warning: This article contains spoilers for 'Heartstopper' Season 1**
1. Alice Oseman Makes A Cameo
Yes, that's right, Oseman does make a small appearance in the TV adaptation of her work, in a scene where viewers may well not have noticed her.
At the end of the Season 1 finale boyfriends Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) head out on a day trip to the seaside where they enjoy a fun outing lifted straight from Oseman's comics.
While on the train to the seaside town Nick and Charlie are very briefly seen sitting in a train carriage, where Charlie admits to Nick he hasn't been in the direction they are going to.
There is a person seen sat on the bay of seats next to the couple who is seen drawing on a tablet, and this is Oseman.
The author told Newsweek that the blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment was the perfect cameo for her.
"That was so much fun, That was exactly what I wanted as well," she said. "I didn't want any, like, close up of me. I didn't want to say anything. I just wanted to be like a figure in the background. So that was perfect."
2. Aled Last Gets a Shout-Out with 'Radio Silence'
Aled Last is a character from the comics that fans might miss, as Oseman previously explained that she had decided not to include him in the TV adaptation of Heartstopper so that she didn't ignore his story in her novel "Radio Silence."
The character is a friend of Charlie's in the comics who is one of two protagonists in the book, and she explained that she didn't feel she could give him a satisfactory storyline in the show without erasing all he had experienced in the novel.
Instead, Oseman created another friend of Charlie's named Isaac (Tobie Donovan) who makes a reference to his predecessor in one scene.
When Nick and Charlie go bowling with him, Tao Xu (William Gao), and Elle Argent (Yasmin Finney) in Episode 5, Isaac is seen reading a copy of "Radio Silence."
This is a clear reference to the character and how his story could potentially be explored in a spin-off.
3. The Headmaster at Nick and Charlie's School May Sound Familiar
In the first episode of the series viewers will hear the Headmaster at Nick and Charlie's school welcome them back to another school day, and they may well recognize the voice.
That's because the Headmaster is being played by Stephen Fry, icon of British TV and author of books like "Mythos" and "Heroes."
Oseman shared her excitement at his casting with Newsweek, saying that, like Oliva Colman's casting as Nick's mom, she couldn't quite believe he'd agreed to be a part of the show.
"It was so amazing. Again, I was like, there's no way!" she said, adding: "I actually can't remember how that came about."
4. A Nod to Netflix
Netflix do enjoy a self-plug in their shows every now and again, just look at their Christmas movies and you'll likely spot someone watching a Netflix film.
In Heartstopper the reference to Netflix is a lot more subtle than that as it happens when Nick is at home and is seen making a cup of tea for himself and his mom.
The character used a mug with the letter 'N' written on the front which, as well as being a reference to his name, is an exact replica of the Netflix symbol.
Coincidence? We think not.
Heartstopper is out on Netflix now.
