Hillary Clinton has backed Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin by sharing a throwback picture of herself partying in Colombia.
The former Secretary of State shared the photo as Marin faces backlash due to a series of videos that have surfaced showing her dancing and partying with friends. Marin also had to deny reports that she used drugs, and took a drug test to clear her name.
While an international social media movement began to support Marin, former presidential nominee Clinton weighed in with a picture taken in 2012.

"As [former Texas Governor] Ann Richards said, 'Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels.'" Clinton wrote on Twitter on Sunday. She attached a picture to her tweet which made headlines in April 2012.
"Here's me in Cartagena while I was there for a meeting as Secretary of State. Keep dancing,@marinsanna."

The picture was taken in a bar called Cafe Havana, in Cartagena, Colombia. Clinton was photographed dancing in a large group and drinking beer, before the images were shared across social media and picked up by news outlets on April 15, 2012. She was in the country for the sixth Summit of the Americas.
Clinton's tweet got over 157,000 likes, but Marin's simple reply got closer to 200,000. The Finnish PM thanked Clinton for the show of support, and included a love heart emoji.
Thank you @HillaryClinton ❤️ https://t.co/8XU9RKUlas

Both Clinton and Marin received thousands of messages of support on Twitter for their exchange, although there were also others who criticized them for various political reasons.

"My Love and Respect For Our Once and Future President is never ending," comedian Greg Proops wrote in response to Clinton's tweet, "The Fact that Women Leaders Can Dance and Act However They Like is Immutable."

"We need more women like Hillary in this world," Democratic politician Heather Milam said. "Such a strong - and fun - advocate for women and girls. Keep shining, HRC!" Broadcast journalist David Simon also praised Clinton, "Well said. Everyone gets to dance a bit," he wrote.
Writer Elif Shafak called both Clinton and Marin "brilliant" for their public stance on the issue. She continued, "At a time when we observe an alarming backlash against women's rights and feminism all across the world, here is to women dancing, and women hearing, understanding, empowering each other."
As mentioned, not everyone was so supportive in their response to Clinton's tweet. Hillary Clinton living it up on taxpayer expense on official business as Secretary of State," wrote British conservative commentator Nile Gardiner. He added, "Liberal elites love the high life on other people's money."
