House of the Dragon may be a prequel to Game of Thrones but it has tried to approach its depiction of sex scenes differently to its predecessor.
Showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik told The Hollywood Reporter that, while they did not want to shy away from issues like sexual violence against women, the HBO hit "pulls back" when it comes to sex scenes and it would not be as prevalent in the show as it was in Game of Thrones.
Matt Smith, though, still felt that he took part in too many scenes of an intimate nature in the show as his character Prince Daemon Targaryen.
Matt Smith's Opinions on 'House of the Dragon' Sex Scenes: 'Bit Weird'

Smith's Daemon has appeared in multiple sex scenes since the show debuted, with his character sharing an intimate moment with his paramour Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) in the premiere episode.
His character also often frequents brothels even if he's not taking part in any of the activities in them, and Episode 4 saw Daemon take his niece Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) to one where they shared an intimate moment and almost had sex together.
Reflecting on having to act in sex scenes for the show, Smith told Rolling Stone in an interview before the show premiered: "You do find yourself asking, 'Do we need another sex scene?' And they're like, 'Yeah, we do.'
"I guess you have to ask yourself: 'What are you doing? Are you representing the books, or are you diluting the books to represent the time [we're living in]?' And I actually think it's your job to represent the books truthfully and honestly, as they were written."
When asked if he appeared in many of the show's sex scenes, the Doctor Who star added that he was in "slightly too much, if you ask me."
The actor also spoke to Digital Spy about the sex scene he appears in in the first episode, saying he and co-star Mizuno treated the scene "like a dance" while reflecting on whether he felt any pressure to appear in scenes of that nature.
Smith said of the scene: "I think you always feel a pressure doing all those scenes, because you've got no clothes on, and there's, like, 50 people staring at you.
"You know, they always feel a bit weird. But no, because she was so fabulous, Sonoya, and we just kind of developed it like a dance—if you can call it that."
The actor concluded: "So, no. It was part of the story, and I knew that was the gig, really."
House of the Dragon airs Sundays on at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
