The circumstances surrounding the cause and manner of death are still under investigation.

Officials asked anyone with information about the incident to call Allegheny County Police's tip line on 1-833-255-8477 (1-800-ALL-TIPS).

Boyce Park spans just over 1,000 acres, most of which is in the borough of Plum.

Online sleuths have speculated whether the remains may belong to missing localwoman Tonee Turner, who disappeared more than six months ago.

The 22-year-old artist was last seen at Dobra Tea in the Squirrel Hill area of Pittsburgh on Monday, December 30th.

Her last known sighting is just 12 miles from where the unidentified remains were found.

Sadly, it is not the first time a human body has been discovered by passersby.

Last month, backpackers walking through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park were horrified to discover a bear feasting on human remains near a campsite.

The hikers said they also spotted an empty tent at backcountry campsite 82, near the Hazel Creek Trail.

Rangers and wildlife experts scrambled to the scene shortly after midnight where they found the bear eating the remains of a man.

The dead man has since been identified as 43-year-old Patrick Madura of Elgin, Illinois.

His cause of death has not yet been established and an investigation into the incident is continuing.

And in response to the public interest in the Netflix series Tiger King, police raided Oklahoma's Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, the private zoo featured in the series.

Two cadaver dogs alerted their handlers of potential human remains at the site in July, however no evidence of human remains has been found, the local sheriff's office confirmed.
