Internet Absolutely Trashes Man Who Claims Wife 'Needs Professional Help' For Playing Game

In 2021, women made up 45 percent of gamers in the United States. As Statista states, that number is up from 41 percent in 2020. Among some of those women, however, stands a parter who understands the phenomenon, or not. On Reddit's "Am I the A**hole (AITA)" forum, one man explained why he believes his wife has a serious problem with gaming — and the internet did not disappoint

"Hello there, I'm currently typing this from my car, after my wife has told me she doesn't want me near her right now. Hoping this thread will be a wake up call to her," the man known as No-Injury-7232 wrote.

"My wife (F33) is a big nerd, which I normally appreciate, but she is taking things way too far today. She took today off of work, so she could be up at 4AM to play her online game at launch. I didn't wake up until about an hour ago (10:30, and she was still playing."

The man continued, saying he told his wife he was hungry. He then asked if they could make breakfast together but she suggested a food delivery service. Things escalated, and at some point, his wife said she wanted to focus on her game.

"I said that it was unfair to our family for her to isolate all weekend, and she got even more mad, telling me that I have two hands and can feed the goddamn cat. I was in tears at this point, and I did raise my voice and said that I was worried she's obsessed with this game and maybe she needs professional help," he said.

The already tense situation escalated even further. He said she threw the car keys at him and told him to leave her alone.

"I am truly concerned that she has become obsessed with this online game, and I'm hoping that maybe reading this thread will wake her up to it, but I might've been the AH too," he added.

Readers had so many strong opinions on the post, moderators deemed it "out of control" and locked it down.

"Dude, she isn't obsessed with a game. A lot of people wake up early/stay up late for the launches of games, it's not unusual. It sounds like you're just mad that she's not cooking for you and that you have to feed yourself and the cat," they wrote in part.

"I cannot - I CANNOT - with grown ass, able-bodied people (let's face it, it's usually men) who think they can just tell their partner they're hungry, and their partner will just drop what they're doing to fix them a snack or a meal," VisualCelery said.

"Saying 'it's unfair on our family' is so wildly manipulative, I'm actually blown away. If they had two kids under like 10, maybe OP would have a point. But nope. Just a cat who'll most likely prefer to be left alone anyway," Sabrielle24 added after the man clarified their family consists of him, his wife, and their cat.

And, to re-iterate what many others said in the more than 5,000 comments, suffragette_citizen commented: "YTA. You mention in another comment that the last time she did this was over two years ago. So every couple of years, your wife wants a weekend to herself. That is not unreasonable."

They continued: "What is unreasonable is that even after she made it very clear she wanted to be left alone, you insisted on continually inserting yourself until she snapped at you, after which you immediately took on the victim role and turned it into a major argument. Almost like that's exactly what you wanted. Gee, I wonder why she needs a weekend to herself now and then."
