A woman has taken to the internet to share how she was told off by the mother of a 23-year-old man for not collecting her son at 3 a.m.—and people are outraged on her behalf.

Writing on the discussion-based site Mumsnet under the name MinibusLift on October 24, the woman revealed the situation on the forum AIBU, which stands for "Am I being unreasonable?"

The post began with the mom detailing how she often drives a minibus to drop off and collect her children and their friends from events "for the price of the fuel" and a cheap hotel room.

She explained that on this particular occasion she had picked up 12 people, the youngest being her daughter who is 18 and the oldest being 25.

MinibusLift went on to add: "I don't get involved in the organizing just tell my children how much it will cost and then I pick them up, drop them where they want to go and then pick them all back up at a pre agreed time.

"I, and my children are very clear that I won't hang around, like a pre booked taxi I leave at a set time."

When it came to 3 a.m. on the Saturday morning, the mother explained that one of her own children had decided to stay on a night out in the city with another man, who she called Alan.

She added that Alan's sister had "tried to convince him but you can't argue with drunk people."

As a result, the woman drove two hours home, but at 8 a.m. was awoken by a call from Alan's mother "asking why the f**k I'd left her son in the city and that he is stuck 2 hours from home with no money and needs to be at work at 10 a.m."

She was also "demanding I go and pick him up, finishing that no mother should leave someone else's son behind."

The woman ended the story by asking if she was being unreasonable for leaving Alan, and the post has garnered 343 comments, with the overwhelming majority in support of the original poster's decision.

One person with the account name Romdowa, wrote: "What were you supposed to do? Drag Alan kicking and screaming into the mini bus?

"He is 23 years old and probably big enough to make decisions for himself."

Another person, EmotionalSupportBear, added: "Nope, YANU [you are not unreasonable] in this. Alan knew when pick up was and decided he didn't want to come.

"Him being in the city when he's due in work is called the consequences of his own ADULT decisions/actions. He's 23... why is his mother calling you?"

Bagelsandbrie stated: "Alan's Mum is over involved. And crazy."

However one account holder, Isabellabasil, described herself as "on the fence."

She explained: "On the one hand you definitely didn't have the parental responsibility to go and find Alan, he is an adult. But on the other, he has paid for you to take him home so it's a bit different from a normal favour from a parent."

To this, CloseYourEyesAndSee responded by writing: "Parental responsibility?? He's 23!! He also refused to be at the arranged pick up time so he forfeited his fare.

"Do you expect trains to wait for everyone who has bought a ticket but doesn't fancy being at the train station when the train is scheduled to leave??"
