The internet has sided with a woman who took off her high heels at her engagement party despite listening to her fiancé or mother-in-law in a new viral post.

Published to the infamous "AmITheA**hole" Reddit forum, a woman under the username, u/wtfthesehighheels4, submitted her story for the followers to decide if she is the party in the wrong. The post has over 7,000 upvotes and 1,600 comments.

The 26-year-old original poster (OP) began by saying that her husband-to-be is very tall and she considers herself short. Her fiancé insisted that she wore heels to their engagement party for photo purposes. She explained that she finds high heels uncomfortable. To make her fiancé happy, she decided to wear a pair. She was also told that she will only be standing for a short period of time.

"At the party he had me stand for hours to welcome the guests (there were like 20 guests) with him. I got so tired of standing and my feet and legs were on fire. I asked if I could sit but his mom said I'm the fiancee and should stand next to my partner not just sit like the party had nothing to do with me," she wrote.

According to footdoc.org, 77 percent of women wear high heels to special events including weddings. How bad is wearing high heels, actually? Wearing high heels can cause stress fractures, pinched nerves, toe and toenail deformities among other health problems.

The woman asked her fiancé if she could take them off once again due to the pain she was experiencing. He told her to "suck it up, it's almost over." She decided to take them off anyway to control the pain.

"He and his mom looked at me in utter confusion. Several of his family and guests saw me barefoot as well. He freaked out asking what I was doing," she explained, "his mom asked that I put my heels on but I said my feet were done and I couldn't do it anymore. my fiance begged me but I stood there til it was over like he wanted."

After the party was over, they got into an argument as her fiancé was upset with her as she "embarrassed" him in front of the guests by being barefoot. She clapped back saying that he told her she wouldn't be standing for hours.

"He argued that for someone with a height like mine, then I should wear high heels more often, and said should've sucked it up for his sake," she wrote, revealing that her fiancé hasn't spoken to her.

She admitted that she didn't mean to embarrass him and that he wants her to wear high heels since "most women wear heels during big occasions like weddings and engagement parties."

The AITA community was quick to comment in her favor.

"[Not the a**hole]. Please don't marry this man. That is some serious controlling behavior," u/gayforaliens1701 wrote in the top comment with over 15,000 upvotes.

"Honestly this is way bigger of a problem than just what happened at the party," u/AModel3Owner said, "[Not the a**hole], and probably worth rethinking an engagement with a man who has so little concern for your well-being that he will give you the silent treatment for wanting to not be in pain."

"Wtf??? [Not the a**hole]. Think twice before marrying this man. He freaked out on you for flipping shoes. He does not dictate what you wear and you shouldn't take this from him. His mom is just as bad. This is a spotlight on how your marriage is going to be. He seems just a tad fucking controlling... Run, OP, run," u/Dounesky exclaimed.

"Mate... RUN," u/QuackLikeMe said.

"This. But definitely take the heels off first," replied u/v0rpalsword.
