The internet is obsessed with finding a cat lurking in a viral photo, who is perfectly camouflaged amid the innocuous background.

Twitter has exploded with snaps of seemingly ordinary photos which actually have felines hiding somewhere in frame.

One snap, shared to the account @Thereisnocat_, amassed 10,000 likes since being shared in January, as people pored over the image trying to find the feline.

The photo shows an angle of a bedroom, with a window, wardrobes in the background, piles of laundry, a bin and folded clothes piled up.

The main character was later revealed to be a 19-year-old cat named Sooty, as her owner, Peter Law, told Newsweek: "We have had her since 2003 when she was a kitten. When our son was young we wanted to get a cat and a work colleague told us about a family who were looking to find homes for a litter of kittens.

"I originally went to pick up only one of the kittens but that would have left Sooty on her own so we ended up with two. Unfortunately, Sooty's brother, Smudge, crossed the rainbow bridge a couple of years ago so she now has the run of the house to herself."

Numerous people commented on the snap in search of Sooty, as Leila Gorojovsky joked: "This is like a daily and way better Where's Waldo."

Yaoi War Veteran quipped: "If this was my cat he would be laying on the nice clean pants in full view."

"These have been getting progressively harder," @Notbetafishes commented.

While @Theelegantuniv2 admitted: "I need to look at the answer key almost every time."

And Holo_Wendy asked: "Anybody else see a kitty face within the black clothes? These are literally making me see things that aren't there."

Still searching, Judith Zawatsky added: "Losing what is left of my mind."

Law, from the U.K., revealed where his pet was, as he continued: "Sooty is a very affectionate cat and will pester for fuss and sit on our laps quite happily but she hates being cuddled or picked up.

"Sooty remains quite sprightly for her age but during the winter months spends much of her time warming her old bones on the radiator or sitting on the windowsill watching the kids going up the road to school.

"The photo I posted on Twitter was taken on January 8, 2022, when Sooty was doing her morning windowsill duties in our bedroom."

He explained he and his wife were themselves fans of the viral cat account, and so decided to get involved.

"My wife and I had both been following the 'There is no cat in this image' account on Twitter and I thought I could probably get a good photo of Sooty for the page if I took the photo at the right angle when she was sitting behind the curtains.

"I was quite pleased with the result, but my wife thought it may be too hard for people to get (and was also a bit concerned that people might think the bedroom looked untidy)! The response to the photo has been quite amazing, I am still getting likes for it now.

"Most people seemed to find Sooty quite quickly, but it has been a bit weird seeing people drawing arrows and cartoon cats on our bedroom curtains.

"Sooty isn't much of a 'hider,' that was more her brother's thing. However, she can be very hard to spot when she curls up on one of our black office chairs."

Some people were able to spot her, as Elise Hannah declared: "Got you, you sneaky-sneak!"

Lynne L confirmed: "I believe I see a bit of a tail under those curtains."

While Stephen Michael admitted: "Went immediately to the laundry basket but much to my surprise he wasn't there! Next look...window ledge. Aha!!!!"
