Issa Rae Gets Caught Checking Her Phone During Betty White's 2018 Emmys Speech

Insecure star Issa Rae seemingly got caught checking her phone while Betty White took the stage at the 2018 Emmys at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles Monday. The Golden Girls star received a standing ovation after she followed an introduction by Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon, who talked about Emmy history, with the first show starting in 1949.

The two comedians then talked about the career of White, who won eight Emmys. There's still plenty of Emmys White didn't win, with McKinnon joking White was "still bitter" about those losses.

White, 96, took the stage, saying she was flattered to be there. "Thank you. I'm just going to quit while I'm ahead!" she joked. She then told a story about someone referring to her as the "first lady of television," to which she turned into a quip about her age. "It's incredible that I'm still in this business and you are still putting up with me," she said.

The camera then cut to Rae, who was apparently gazing at her phone. The Root called it a "mood" while others said Rae was caught being disinterested in the Emmys.

Rae was nominated for outstanding actress in a comedy. It was her first Emmy. Earlier in the night, she lost to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan.
