On Monday, Emma Boettcher, the only person to beat James Holzhauer at Jeopardy!, will compete in the semi-final round of the show's "Tournament of Champions."

Boettcher ended Holzhauer's historic Jeopardy! run, during which he won 32 consecutive games, in June. The University of Chicago librarian only lasted three nights on the show, but her winnings earned her a place in the "Tournament of Champions."

Occurring annually, the tournament lasts 10 days, not including weekends, and runs from November 4 until November 15. The tournament is made up of three rounds—quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals—with the winners from each round advancing to the next.

Gilbert Collins, Dhruv Gaur, James Holzhauer, Boettcher and Francis Barcomb won their respective quarterfinal matchups, guaranteeing them a place in the semi-finals. Kyle Jones, Rachel Lindgren, Lindsey Shultz and Steven Grade also advanced to the next round as wildcards, spots reserved for the people who had the highest money totals among the quarterfinal losers.

Boettcher will face off against Gaur and Jones in the first matchup of the semi-finals on Monday and Holzhauer will compete in his own round the following night. So, those who want to see a rematch between Boettcher and Holzhauer will have to wait until Thursday night. That is, if both Boettcher and Holzhauer win their semi-final heats and earn a place in the finals, of course.

To help pass the time until a potential Boettcher Holzhauer face-off, take a few minutes to learn about tonight's contestants.

Emma Boettcher

Boettcher grew up in the Philadelphia area and then earned her undergraduate degree at Princeton University in 2014. After graduation, she earned a master's degree from the University of North Carolina.

When she went on Jeopardy! She was a user-experience librarian at the University of Chicago. She told the Chicago Tribune that before going on the show, she tracked her scores at home for five years and auditioned four times before she was selected as a contestant.

Dhruv Gaur

Gaur, a Georgia native, achieved a perfect score of 1600 on the SAT exam in high school and gained acceptance to Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, according to the university.

He first appeared on Jeopardy! on a College Champion episode that aired in April 2018 during his first year of college. As a freshman, he participated in running club and intramural soccer and wrote for the Brown Political Review, a student-run political magazine.

Kyle Jones

Jones, a band teacher from Aurora, Colorado, competed on Jeopardy! in September 2018 and won seven days in a row, bringing home more than $145,000. He told KUSA that he had a gift for remembering facts and always paid attention in school, which he credited with being a good message for his students.

With his earnings, he planned on paying off debt and setting some aside for his young daughter's future.

There are no wildcards in the semi-finals and only the top winner of each match-up will advance to the finals on Thursday and Friday. Whoever wins the final competition will receive $250,000 in prize money, according to CNN. The person who finishes in second will receive $100,000 and third place will have earned themselves $50,000.
