Donald Trump's actions on January 6 have come under close scrutiny this week, as the House select committee investigating the attack on the Capitol held its eighth hearing.

At Thursday's televised hearing in Washington, D.C., key aides of the former president testified that, for more than three hours, Trump took no action to stop the riot and simply watched the violence unfold on live television.

The session also heard evidence that on the day after the storming of the Capitol, the former president was reluctant to say the election was over, continuing to push his false narrative that it had been "stolen."

When Is the Next January 6 Committee Hearing?

At the end of the July 21 session, the committee chair Rep. Bennie Thompson said there would be another public hearing in September. The date has not been confirmed, but this session will be just a few weeks before the midterm elections on November 8.

"We continue to receive new information every day. We are pursuing many additional witnesses for testimony. We will reconvene in September to continue laying out our findings to the American people and pushing for accountability," Thompson said.

Earlier in the day, the panel's vice chair, Rep. Liz Cheney, said: "Our committee will spend August pursuing and merging information on multiple fronts before convening in September."

The Republican lawmaker added that the panel had "received new evidence and new witnesses have bravely stepped forward. Doors have opened, new subpoenas have been issued and the dam has begun to break. We have far more evidence to share with the American people, and more to gather."

The committee's first six hearings were held in June—on the 9th, 13th, 16th, 21st, 23rd and 28th. The next two were on July 12 and July 21. A summary of the evidence presented in the early hearings can be found here.
