What is Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy About?

Filmed over 20 years, Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy charts the rise of producer-turned-rapper Kanye West and his breakthrough into the fashion world and his later years.

The three-part documentary series also touches on several of West's controversies, including his endorsement of Donald Trump and announcing his own run for President of the United States in 2020, his deteriorating mental health, and his marriage to Kim Kardashian.

Each episode is around 80 minutes long and split into three parts:

  • act i: VISION: Wednesday, February 16
  • act ii: PURPOSE: Wednesday, February 23
  • act iii: AWAKENING: Wednesday, March 2

The documentary was directed by Coodie & Chike (Clarence Simmons and Chike Ozah) who met an aspiring West in the early 2000s when he was failing to be taken seriously as a rapper.

Over 20 years, they have managed to film some of West's greatest moments, such as the recording of "The College Dropout," released in 2004, and the making of the song "Through The Wire," which was recorded just weeks after West survived a near-fatal car crash.

Coodie & Chike have also managed to capture several sweet moments between West and his mother Donda West. Sadly, Donda West died in November 2007. Kanye West has since gone on to dedicate two albums to her, "Donda (2021)" and the upcoming "Donda 2."

Speaking to Newsweek, Coodie shared the documentary had been set for release on numerous occasions but Kanye was not ready.

He said: "They say everything happens in God's time. We were going to do the documentary in 2006, but Kanye wasn't ready for the world to see that side of him because he was a performer and he wanted to have that light.

"Then we were going to do it in 2014, but they had another agenda for Kanye, so that didn't happen then. Then this time I said, 'It's time for this to happen—and everything started lining up."
