Newsweek has everything you need to know about Anarchapulc founder and the person at the centre of the HBO documetnary, Jeff Berwick.

Who Is Jeff Berwick?

Jeff Berwick is an entrepreneur, libertarian and anarcho-capitalist activist.

On his website, DollarVigilante.com, Berwick describes himself as a "freedom fighter against mankind's two biggest enemies, the State and the Central Banks."

He is an Anarcho-capitalist, supporting the abolition of centralized states in favor of private property, the free market, and self-ownership. It is a peaceful movement, believing that society can exist without control or coercion.

Elsewhere, anarchic-capitalists support the mass legalization of drugs and use of cryptocurrency.

In 2015, Berwick founded Anarchapulco in Acapulco, Mexico a former holiday resort which is the focus of HBO Max's documentary, The Anarchists.

Anarchapulco is an annual anarcho-capitalist conference which Berwick describes it as a "freedom conference" and festival where anarchists congregate.

The most recent event took place in February 2022.

Berwick also hosts The Dollar Vigilante podcast and continues to run an accompanying newsletter of the same name.

Via both outlets, Berwick discussed things about anarcho-capitalism, currency, current affairs, the stock market, and more. He also supports the end of the current monetary system, explains Vice.

Via Anarchapulco and The Dollar Vigilante, Berwick warns of the collapse of the current money system and provides tips for survival, including holding gold, silver, and cryptocurrency.

Wired details how he also advocates for real estate overseas, a second passport, and minimizing tax payments.

Over the years, the festival has featured notable and controversial speakers from John McAfee, an American software engineer and political figure, politician and author, Ron Paul, to British conspiracy researcher David Icke and unschooling advocate, Dayna Martin.

Anarchapulco has also attracted some negative attention due to the perceived influence of local drug cartels in the area and some attendees, who perceived anarchy to mean genuine lawlessness.

In 2019, Anarchapulco hit headlines when American fugitive and member John Galton was murdered in his home. His death was blamed on cartel violence but in The Anarchists, Galton's partner Lily Forester blamed his death on Paul Propert, a member of the Anarchapulco, who dealt drugs to attendees and threatened violence towards the couple in numerous social media posts.

Propert took his own life in 2019 and Galton's murder officially remains unsolved.

Berwick was born on November 24, 1970, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In 2016, he acquired Dominican Republic citizenship.

He founded Stockhouse, a penny stock promotion and marketing suite in 1994 and served as the CEO. He sold the company in 2012.

Berwick was also an early investor in bitcoin and was no stranger on news channels such as Bloomberg and Fox News discussing the currency.

The Anarchists airs Sundays at 10 p.m ET on HBO and HBO Max.
