Jeffrey Dean Morgan, known to The Walking Dead fans for his role as the character Negan, is joining the cast of the popular series The Boys.
Amazon on Thursday announced Morgan will be joining Prime Video's superhero show for its upcoming fourth season, and the actor later posted several messages about the news on Twitter. Morgan's casting represents a reunion of sorts, as he will once again be working with The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke and actor Jensen Ackles. The three men previously worked together on The CW's Supernatural, which Kripke created.
Ackles only just recently joined The Boys for its third season. On Supernatural, Morgan played the father of Ackles' character, but details about his role on The Boys have not yet been divulged other than reports that he will be a recurring guest.
Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie on The Boys, also posted the news about Morgan on Twitter. Morgan retweeted Quaid's message and added, "Let's GOOO!!"

Morgan had made public overtures about joining The Boys prior to Thursday's announcement. In 2020, he and Kripke exchanged messages on Twitter about him joining the show.
During that online conversation, Kripke tweeted to Morgan: "I'll make you a deal. Season 3. I'll write it, and if you're avail, come shoot it! Thanks for all the love, brother."
"In a heartbeat!" Morgan replied.

On Thursday, Morgan wrote several other tweets about the news, including one where he thanked The Boys and AMC for working together to make the timing work.
"Can't tell you how excited I am! Big thanks to @therealKripke and @AMCPlus & @TheBoysTV for finding a way with both schedules. No easy task. SO DAMN STOKED!!" he said.
After Karl Urban—another member of The Boys cast—shared his excitement about the news in a tweet, Morgan wrote, "Man!! I can't wait!! We gonna PLAY!!"
Fans also celebrated the news. One person tweeted, "I love how the vast majority of my Twitter feed has been full of the fantastic news that my favorite actor, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is joining the cast of one of the best TV shows around, The Boys."
Morgan first appeared as a guest star on AMC's hit zombie series The Walking Dead at the end of its sixth season in 2016. He returned the following season as a regular cast member, and his portrayal of Negan has made him a favorite among the show's many fans.
The Walking Dead concludes its run on AMC with its eleventh season this fall, though it will live on in various spin-offs. The second part of the final season is scheduled to begin on October 2.
Newsweek reached out to Morgan for comment.
