Claudia Conway, the daughter of former Donald Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, has accused President Joe Biden of "hypocrisy" over his speech on the third anniversary of the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
Three years ago, a violent mob of Trump supporters stormed the building in Washington, D.C. in an attempt to stop Congress certifying the result of the 2020 election and the victory of Biden. The then-president baselessly said that the election had been stolen from him via widespread fraud.
In August 2023, Trump was indicted on four counts by the Department of Justice in relation to the riot, including conspiracy to defraud the United States; conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding; and conspiracy against rights. Trump has pled not guilty and has said that the case against him is politically motivated.
Starting his campaign for reelection in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, last Friday, Biden delivered a speech in which he called out his predecessor Trump and those involved in the riots. "The topic of my speech today is deadly serious, and I think it needs to be made at the outset of this campaign," Biden told supporters.

Delving straight into his thoughts on the events that took place just days before his inauguration, Biden placed the blame firmly on Trump for the actions of his supporters. "Three years ago tomorrow, we saw with our own eyes the violent mob storm the United States Capitol," Biden said.
"He [Trump] promised it would be 'wild,' and it was. He told the crowd to 'fight like hell,' and all hell was unleashed. He promised he would right them. Everything they did, he would be side by side with them. Then, as usual, he left the dirty work to others. He retreated to the White House," Biden added.
Figures on both sides of the political aisle and netizens have given their opinions on Biden's words, with some calling it "the best speech ever" and others branding it a "doomer speech."
Claudia Conway showed where she stood on the matter, when she wrote on X, formerly Twitter, the day after the speech that there was "lots of hypocrisy coming from Mr. Biden throughout his address yesterday. '..violence is never ever acceptable.'"

While Claudia Conway did not specify how Biden's purported hypocrisy applied in this case, the president has been criticized for supporting Israel in its conflict with Hamas, and the aid provided to Ukraine amid it's long-running war with Russia.
Claudia Conway continued her criticism of Biden when she weighed in on the president's X post, in which he shared a Chicago Sun-Times screenshot that read: "Donald Trump didn't sign loyalty oath for Illinois ballot that pledges not to 'advocate the overthrow of the government.'"
A caption accompanying the image read: "I said Donald Trump is willing to sacrifice our democracy to put himself in power. I wasn't exaggerating."
Hitting back, Claudia Conway responded: "Yet you are sacrificing our democracy by not listening to our calls for change... where are our tax dollars going Joe??"

The posts have garnered a mixed reaction from X users, given Claudia Conway's positioning of herself as a fervent critic of Trump, most recently over the stumbling blocks he is now facing over the January 6 insurrection.
Amid the fallout from the Capitol riot, Trump, who is the frontrunner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, faces legal challenges that seek to remove him from the ballot in a number of other states. The lawsuits argue that Trump is ineligible to run under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which bars officials who have sworn an oath to the U.S. Constitution from holding office if they engaged in insurrection.
So far, the Colorado Supreme Court has barred Trump from the state's 2024 GOP primary, and Maine has removed Trump from its 2024 ballot, preventing him from participating in its primary in March.
Steven Cheung, spokesperson for Trump's campaign, told Newsweek in a statement that they planned to file an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Cheung branded the ruling a "scheme" intended to help Biden win in 2024. He further characterized it as a "completely flawed" and undemocratic decision.
In a since-deleted X post, Claudia Conway, who has been a frequent critic of Trump, addressed the issue as she wrote late last month: "Guys my two favorite states are Maine and Colorado right now buttttt I'm not sure why."
Claudia Conway and her father, Lincoln Project co-founder George Conway, emerged in 2020 as vocal critics of Trump and his presidency, despite Kellyanne Conway's position in the onetime real estate mogul's administration.
Kellyanne Conway is a former pollster who rose to national prominence as the manager of Trump's successful 2016 presidential campaign, later transitioning to a senior adviser role in the Trump White House. She has also developed a reputation as a Trump media surrogate, known for defending his many claims and stances across various news outlets.
Over the years, and throughout a tumultuous period in relationship with her mother, Claudia Conway has remained vocally opposed to the former president and many conservative political pursuits, including the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
Around the time she first began publicly speaking out against Trump in 2020, Claudia Conway also hinted at turmoil in her relationship with her parents, claiming at the time to be "officially pushing for emancipation."
By the summer of 2021, Claudia Conway revealed in a TikTok post that she was on good terms with her mother, despite their political differences.
