President Joe Biden's press conference responding to Special Counsel Robert Hur's report detailing his classified documents probe "didn't go well," Representative Adam Smith admitted.
Hur released a report concluding that Biden should not be prosecuted for classified documents that were discovered at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement as well as his home in Delaware. Although Biden will not be charged, Hur wrote that the president did not remember when his son died or when he served as vice president, adding to concerns about Biden's cognitive ability among his critics.
Following the report, Biden held a press conference hitting out at Hur's report Thursday night, telling reporters, "I know what the hell I'm doing." Also during the press conference, Biden mixed up the presidents of Mexico and Egypt.
Smith, a Washington Democrat, said that press conference went poorly for the president.

"Clearly, yesterday's press conference, as you said, I'm a senior Democratic politician, I've been doing this for a long time, that's not the way you want to do it," Smith said.
"He was angry, he was frustrated by what came out. There was not a prepared clear agenda of, 'Here's my explanation, here's what I'm doing.' It didn't go well. OK, there's no doubt about that."
Still, Smith defended Biden's record on the economy, which he described as "the most important thing."
"He's negotiated a very difficult situation, coming out of the pandemic, dealing with a series of international crises, in a way that's been very coherent and has moved the policy forward," he said. "There's no doubt in my mind right now that he's capable of doing the job."
Newsweek reached out to the White House for comment via email.
Hur's report comes as Biden continues facing questions about his age as he remains the front-runner to win the Democratic nomination for president. The report has sparked new concerns about his cognitive ability, though Biden maintains that he is fit to serve in office.
The White House wrote in a statement they "disagree with a number of inaccurate and inappropriate comments in the Special Counsel's report."
The most recent report about Biden's health from his physician, Kevin O'Connor, found that Biden "remains fit for duty" and "fully executes all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or accommodations." The report did not outline any signs of dementia or cognitive decline.
"President Biden remains a healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency," O'Connor wrote last February.
While Biden's supporters sought to highlight the report concluding that he should not face criminal charges, some Democrats responded to it, along with the press conference, with concern.
"After Biden's disastrous press conference where he confused Mexico and Egypt, cable news analysts admitted it was a mess. But this morning they're back to pretending it went great, it was 'smart thing to do' and that Biden looked 'youthful.' Guys, your propaganda is showing," posted Cenk Uygur, a Democratic presidential candidate and host of The Young Turks.
