John Fetterman Appears With Wife Amid Divorce Rumors

Senator John Fetterman and his wife made a public appearance for their "date night" as speculation grows around their marriage.

Fetterman posed with his Brazilian-born wife Gisele Barreto Fetterman at a black tie event in a photo he posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Rumors had been circulating that the pair had split when Barreto Fetterman temporarily deleted her accounts on both Instagram and X.

Some social media users, including an alleged New York Times intern with the X handle @schizarella, pointed out Barreto Fetterman's social media departure.

But on Wednesday, Fetterman attempted to put the rumors to rest with the photo on X where he is sporting black shorts and a black hoodie with a tuxedo print on it. His wife posed next to him, with their arms interlocked, in a black, sparkly dress.

"Date Night 🎩👠," Fetterman captioned the post on X.

Newsweek contacted Fetterman's office by email for comment.

Barreto Fetterman broke her social media silence this week to explain why she had originally deleted her Instagram and X accounts.

She had been the target of trolling over her husband's unwavering support of Israel amid the country's ongoing assault on Gaza and war with Hamas.

"I posted several months ago that i would be talking a break from social media," she wrote on Tuesday. "I was bored with it ... i am a Pisces ... it wasn't adding anything to my life .. but leaving social media is somehow more exhausting than having it?!"

"You guys really are terrible, respectfully," she added in a follow-up post.

On November 17, Barreto Fetterman wrote in an X post that she was "3 weeks into a social media break that may last another month or forever. PS. treating someone as simply someone's spouse is insulting and minimizing. PSS. did you know male spouses don't get treated this way? PSSS. no more cute animal pics for you."

Some people speculated that the couple was facing troubles because of Fetterman's perceived political transformation, including his support for Israel and the need to "effectively address" the influx of migrants at the southern border.

Barreto Fetterman arrived in the U.S. aged seven with her family as an undocumented immigrant before getting a green card in 2004 and later becoming a citizen. Some saw Fetterman's comments about border control as a slight against his wife.

However, she stood by her husband and clarified his statements by sharing a screenshot from a Newsweek article.

"Friends, this is the actual quote," she wrote on X and told people that "we all have to all be better than sharing fake news."

The screenshot showed Fetterman telling CNN anchor Jake Tapper: "I think two things can be true at the same time: You can be very supportive of immigration, but we also need to have a secure border.

"We want to provide the American Dream for any migrant, but it seems very difficult when you have 300,000 people showing up encountered at our border to do that. I think we need to do a reset and work together to develop a new comprehensive solution."

Fetterman added: "I don't understand why it's it controversial to say we need a secure border. I've been really clear—in fact, that was weaponized against me by Republicans in my race, that I'm very much a strong supporter of immigration. My wife's family, there's an origin story about that."
