Amber Heard faced more criticism from fans of her ex-husband Johnny Depp this week after Adam Sandler appeared on TV sporting a black eye.
During her recent defamation court battle with Depp, Heard alleged that during their relationship she had taken to covering up facial bruises with makeup before making an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2015.
The new discussion comparing Heard and Sandler came this week, as Sandler made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday sporting a black eye of his own, passing off the injury as "pathetic" in a story laced with humor.
"I had an accident, everybody," said Sandler as he spoke with Fallon. "Everything's all right, but I wish it was a good story—it's pathetic."
Sandler went on to explain that when he got into bed, he noticed that the sheets were tucked in too tightly for his liking, so he attempted to kick them loose while forgetting that his iPhone was on his lap.
He said his actions sent the smartphone flying into the air, before it landed on his face, leaving him with a bloody injury in the early hours of the morning.
"I was bleeding terribly," Sandler said. "I mean, I thought it was pitch black in the room, and I feel wetness and I tricked myself. I go, 'This is probably just thick tears.' ... I didn't want to get up, you know, because I was tired. And I was like, 'Ah, we'll fix that later.'"
"I woke up, it was horrible," he went on. "It was bleeding all over, it was gushing still and there was blood on the bed and all that stuff. So I said, 'I've got to get this fixed.' So I went to the Apple Store."

Heard alleged last month in her testimony at Virginia's Fairfax County Circuit Court that during an appearance on Cordon's show, she covered black eyes sustained from an alleged altercation with Depp the day before.
The claims led to Depp's fans scrutinizing footage and photos from Heard's appearance on the CBS show as they questioned her claims, which were supported in court by her former makeup artist, Melanie Inglessis.
While Sandler's injury had nothing to do with Heard, her name was soon brought up on Instagram by a Depp fan account.
A close-up screenshot of Sandler's injury was shared alongside a caption that read: "Adam Sandler went on Jimmy Fallon's show with a black eye and he explained he kicked the phone while lying on bed and it hit him in the eye. Where are Melanie and Amber to help him with some amica cream and a bruise kit?"
Comparing the prominence of Sandler's bruise to Heard's, another Instagram user commented: "First thing I noticed is the obvious swelling on his face that was completely absent from her face for a week after her claimed incident!! Two sets of police officers totally missed it when they went to the penthouse that night!!"
Echoing that sentiment, another weighed in: "If this is what it looked like after kicking it and it falling on your face—imagine what it would look like if someone actually threw it at your face."
"Look at that black eye caused by a phone," another person commented. "Now imagine how Amber's complete face would have looked like while being hit multiple times with chunky big rings and a phone thrown at her as well!!!"
While testifying at her trial last month, Heard held up a makeup palette as she told the court: "This is what I was talking about as a color correction kit. This is not, obviously, the exact one I used to carry, but I used to carry it with me all the time," she said. "Sometimes this pink is sometimes a little bit more purple of a hue. And sometimes the kits are three colors. You can get them in three or four colors. Sometimes they have even more."
Explaining why she always had the kit with her, she went on: "I am typically photographed in L.A. when I leave the house. Paparazzi take my photograph, so I'm somewhat aware of that anyway.
"No woman wants to walk around with a bruise on her face. So if I did have a bruise on my face, or someplace visible, the main thing you have to do is ice right away to reduce swelling, because no amount of makeup can fix swelling," she said. "But it's very manageable. You ice it really soon. Arnica is also a great remedy, arnica cream."
"And then if you want to cover up a bruise, you obviously put foundation first, concealer and then on top of that I use like a bruise kit," she continued, before quickly correcting herself. "Not a bruise kit, it's a theater makeup kit."
Depp launched a $50 million lawsuit against Heard over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post, in which she said that she was a domestic abuse survivor.
The jury largely sided with Depp, awarding him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages on June 1. The judge adjusted the punitive damages to $350,000, as Virginia law limits punitive damages.
Heard, who had countersued for $100 million for nuisance, was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages by the jury.
Depp's courtroom victory came almost two years after he lost a 2020 libel case against British tabloid The Sun, which had labeled the actor a "wife-beater" in reference to Heard's allegations of domestic abuse.
Heard accused Depp of domestic abuse during their divorce proceedings in 2016. The stars, who wed in 2015, had their union officially dissolved in January 2017, months after Heard filed for divorce from Depp.
While Depp had repeatedly denied ever having been violent to Heard during the three-week trial in London, the overseeing judge found that the U.K. publication's claims that the actor was abusive to Heard were "substantially true."
