What Happened to Josh Guimond?

On November 20, 2002, 20-year-old student Josh Guimond attended a friend's party at Minnesota St. John's University, just three minutes from his dorm.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., Guimond left the party and headed home but unfortunately, he never made it. Guimond disappeared without a trace and has not been seen since.

As seen in Unsolved Mysteries, when Guimond left the party, he was not wearing his glasses, did not have his car keys, and was not dressed warmly enough to be spending a significant amount of time outdoors. There was also no activity on his credit cards.

It was not until the following day Guimond's friends noticed he was missing after he failed to show up to a pre-law society meeting.

For nearly two full decades, Guimond's family and friends have been searching for him. True-crime enthusiasts may already be familiar with Guimond's story as it was the focus of Josh Newville's Simply Vanished podcast.

Today, the case remains unsolved but there have been several updates over the years, which are shared in Unsolved Mysteries.

As seen in Unsolved Mysteries, one line of inquiry was the possibility that Guimond had downed in Stumpf Lake, located on the university campus after a police dog traced his sent to a bridge over the lake. However, his body has never been recovered.

Another theory questions whether Guimond was abducted on campus. Simply Vanished podcast host Josh Newville and Guimond's father Brian, explored this theory in great detail, explaining at the time of Guimond's disappearance, there had been reports in the years and months of attacks, stalkings, and abduction attempts in and around the college.

Speaking to MPR, Josh Guimond's father, Brian Guimond said: "It's like I said from day 1. He was set up and grabbed. There's all kinds of human trafficking going on, sex slaves, all that crap. Nobody wants to talk about it. That's real. It's happening."

In recent years, police discovered new information linked to Guimond's computer and Yahoo account which brought forward a new theory that is explored in Unsolved Mysteries.

An analysis of Guimond's messages revealed he was speaking to men online via various different chatrooms and dating platforms. Investigators have put forward the theory that Guimond went to visit one of these men and they, may have something to do with his disappearance.

A look at Guimond's computer also found that music had been playing on his computer between 11:52 p.m. and 12:32 p.m. on the night he is believed to have disappeared. It also became evident some of the songs had been skipped.

Either, Guimond did return home after the party and left his dorm under unknown circumstances, or somebody else was at his computer.

On Saturday, October 22, detectives at Stearns County Sheriff's Office released images of 28 unidentified men they would like to speak to in connection with Guimond's disappearance.

Anyone with information related to Josh's disappearance or the identities of those pictured is asked to contact Investigator Struffert with the Stearns County Sheriff's Office at 320-259-3700 or submit a tip online.
