Justin Timberlake has been filmed working the cash register at a branch of Target in a video that has confused and divided fans.

In a video posted to TikTok by Douglas Anthony, the "Cry Me A River" star can be seen ringing up some Ice Breakers candy along with a pack of gum.

Timberlake is not wearing a Target uniform but rather a coat and hat, while the two items he does ring up end up being put back on the shelves.

A caption accompanying the video, which can be viewed here, reads: "Justin Timberlake says post this for the naysayers."

The singer-songwriter's antics seem to be part of a joke between him and the original poster Anthony, but it has ended up leaving fans perplexed.

Writing alongside the post, Heyford Price commented: "Still don't think this is him. I need him to speak up and give us a full sentence."

Price's skepticism came despite Anthony posting a series of videos featuring Timberlake, including one of the two men dancing to "Humble" by Kendrick Lamar.

Others were confused as to what he was doing.

Charlie Spinner asked: "Nobody gonna mention how he just scanned something and put it back on the shelf?

Gt agreed: "Why is he putting it back on the shelf though?"

User8986947942842 joked: "Times are tough when JT starts working at target."

S. Huxley, meanwhile, was eager to defend Timberlake's right to shop wherever he chooses.

"Why is everyone so surprised he's at Target?" he asked. "He's a human just like the rest of us. Just more talented."

Social Media Broke agreed: "Normalize celebrities being in public."

Jade Tompkins felt differently, asking the musician to perform the "Target skit from SNL."

Any doubts as to the identity of the man in the clip all but disappeared when Timberlake's former NSYNC bandmate Lance Bass slid into the TikTok post's comments.

"This guy looks oddly familiar," Bass wrote. "I can't place it."

Footage of Timberlake joking around in Target has proven popular on TikTok, with the video racking up more than 1.1 million views on the platform.

Timberlake features in three videos posted to Anthony's account.

One sees the singer dancing alongside Anthony in a parking lot, while another clip sees the two men joking around at an unknown location.

According to one of the videos, the clips were filmed in Colorado.

Timberlake is something of a regular visitor to Colorado where his wife Jessica Biel grew up.

Newsweek has reached out to Anthony for comment on the videos.
