BTS member Yoongi is celebrating nine years since he made his professional debut in the music industry.
Born in Daegu (the fourth largest city in South Korea), the 26-year-old BTS rapper moved to South Korea's capital Seoul on November 7, 2010, to pursue a professional career in music. Working part-time for a music studio, he began his journey as a composer, performer and rapper as a member of hip-hop group D-Town in 2010.
Also known by his stage names Suga and Agust D, Yoongi joined Big Hit Entertainment as a music producer for 3 years before he debuted with the other members of BTS in 2013. He has since written lyrics and produced several songs from various BTS albums as well as for other artists.
In 2018, he and the rest of BTS were awarded a 문화훈장 (Order of Cultural Merit) by South Korean President Moon Jae-in for his "outstanding meritorious services in the fields of culture and art in the interest of promoting the national culture and national development," according to the Korea Law Translation Center.
BTS fans have taken to social media to celebrate 9 years of his career using the hashtag #9YearsWithYoongi, which has been trending on Twitter.
