Kelly Rowland Says Beyoncé's Mom Scolded Her Over 'Bad Parenting Moment'

Kelly Rowland has recalled a time when Beyoncé's mom scolded her for "bad parenting."

During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Monday, October 17, the Destiny's Child alum, 41, revealed her seven-year-old son Titan had watched her new movie The Curse of Bridge Hollow. The singer is also a mom to Noah, 20 months, both of whom she shares with husband Tim Weatherspoon.

According to IMDb, the adventure comedy—which is rated TV-14, is about "a teenage girl who accidentally releases an ancient and mischievous spirit on Halloween, which causes decorations to come alive and wreak havoc."

"Did your kids see the movie? What did they think?" Jennifer Hudson, 41, asked in an advance screening of the episode provided to Newsweek.

In response, Rowland laughed while saying she "had a really bad parenting moment."

"Titan is about to be eight. I thought since I'm sitting right there with him, we're fine," the actress explained. "But there's a scene in the movie where mommy looks like she's about to go to the other side, and basically, Titan goes, 'Mommy!'" she shared, noting he burst into tears.

"It was a whole release. He cried for five minutes," she continued. "I was like, 'Yo, I'm right here. I'm right here, I'm not going nowhere.' He was like, 'No.' It was a whole moment."

Rowland added that she "called Mama T," a.k.a. Tina Knowles for advice.

"She was like, 'Well why the hell you do something like that?' She didn't understand why I even showed him the movie. She was like, 'It's Halloween, baby, you don't do that.' So, I missed the mark."

Rowland has said that she practices so-called gentle parenting with her two children.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, it's an approach that aims to "raise confident, independent and happy children through empathy, respect and understanding, and setting healthy boundaries."

Traditional parenting, meanwhile, focuses "on punishment and reward," the website states.

"Some of it makes sense to me, and some of it doesn't," Rowland told host Angie Martinez, while appearing on the Angie Martinez IRL podcast earlier this month.

She added that the aim is to try to "break the generational curse of talking at your kids and making them feel seen and respected. And the first place they're going to understand love and respect and self-awareness is in the home."

Martinez joked that the concept sounded "lovely and ridiculous."

The "Motivation" singer admitted that she was raised differently, but now that she's a parent: "I'm unlearning things that happened to me in my childhood with my son."

"It's like trial and error," Rowland said. "We don't get it all the way right."

The Curse of Bridge Hollow premiered on October 14 on Netflix.
