A kitten with a "funny face" has taken the Internet by storm recently due to his unusual yet adorable appearance.

The ginger kitten, named Orc by his owner Lauren Ripley (@laurenkimrupley), owes his unique appearance to his slightly wider-than-average face, and extra tufts of fur on either side of his nose, giving him the look of a character from the 2009 film Avatar.

The video, which has been viewed over 578,000 times, states, "When no one wanted the kitten with the funny face so I did."

Most healthy kittens will have no problem finding a forever home. However, those with disabilities, health problems, or senior cats often find themselves waiting a long time for someone to adopt them.

The third week of December each year is known as 'Adopt a Less-Adoptable Pet' week, where shelters and sanctuaries promote the animals that are struggling to get adopted.

Petfinder.com regards animals that 48 weeks or more on their website as "less adoptable," and it reports that on average, pets spend roughly 12.5 weeks waiting before getting adopted.

"One of the reasons a pet might be less adoptable is their looks," according to The Spruce Pets pet resource site. "Black dogs and cats tend to be overlooked, as well as pit bulls and other breeds stereotyped as 'aggressive.' It's important to get to know the individual dog or cat for their personality, not their looks or breed reputation. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover."

Similarly, cats with disabilities such as missing limbs also struggle to get adopted.

"There are many disabled cats looking for adoption and, among them, the felines missing one of their limbs can easily be the stunning pet you've been looking for," states pet products brand Purina. "Leg amputation is sometimes necessary if a cat has been in an accident or as a result of a tumor that needs to be removed before it spreads to other parts of the body.

"But they'll accommodate to life on three legs in no time and you'll soon see them keen to run and walk again. Owners of cats with a missing limb need to keep a close eye on their pet's weight. These felines won't be able to roam the neighborhood or chase birds as often as the other fellow cats. The drop off in physical activity can often translate into extra pounds."

"What funny face, all I see is a sweet angel," commented one user. "It's like a heart on her head," said another. "Ok I see everyone thought of Avatar. And he's ADORABLE," wrote a third user.

Newsweek has reached out to Ripley via TikTok for comment.
