A social-media user has melted hearts with a viral video of her kittens having fun by playing with an unusual toy.

The clip was shared on the r/aww subreddit on Thursday under the username u/Bugbear259. In the footage, the four little kittens can be seen having the time of their lives, playing with a bunch of leaves scattered around the living room. The hilarious clip comes with a caption that reads: "Bunch of leaves blew in during Halloween. We let our foster kittens play with them before sweeping up."

Down in the comments, the poster wrote: "The kittens are only 9.5 weeks old, but whenever we have fosters that are 11 or 12 weeks or older kittens I say it's like sharing the house with a troupe of monkeys. This group hasn't hit peak monkey yet, but they're getting close!"

If you're a cat owner, you've probably noticed that, no matter how many fancy toys you buy for your pet, they are almost always going to end up playing with the most unthinkable things, like the wrapping, way more than with the actual toy.

Objects as basic and simple as cardboard boxes are among cats' favorite things to play with. But what is it that makes them so? The pet-wellness experts at Rover say boxes give cats a territory of their own, making the perfect spot for some alone time. They also make the pets feel safer, helping to reduce stress and keeping them warm. Moreover, boxes can "make a cat feel like they're in a warm embrace."

The video has quickly gone viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 32,000 upvotes and more than 260 comments on the platform.

One user, justabill71, commented: "That slide to the camera at the end. Purrfection." And SouldiesButGoodies84 posted: "Cow kitten multitasking - licking the leg, eye still on the leaf offensive."

OneMorePenguin wrote: "Bring more fresh leaves in tomorrow. This is the cutest thing I've seen in a long time." And Secretdrug added: "Idk [I don't know] how yall do it. If I fostered a bunch of kittens I'd just end up owning a bunch of kittens. No way I wouldn't get attached after seeing something like this."
