Just as fans of cheesy holiday films get over Last Christmas in cinemas, Netflix has another generous helping of fromage in the form of new movie The Knight Before Christmas, which has a release date this week. Fans of the streaming service's 2018 festive film The Princess Switch will be pleased to know that Vanessa Hudgens will also lead the cast of this new movie, which has a plot that has her love interest this time as a 14th Century knight and a trailer that teases a movie full of fish-out-of-water festive humor.
When is The Knight Before Christmas on Netflix?
Fans of Netflix Christmas films do not have long to wait: the release date for the new movie is Thursday, November 21. As with the majority of the streaming service's releases, the film will be released at one minute past midnight PT, or 3:01 a.m. ET. Prior to then, however, Netflix has released a trailer onto the streaming service that gives fans a taste of what to expect from the medieval/modern day mash-up.
Who is in the cast of The Knight Before Christmas?
Former High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens, who has become something of a poster girl for Netflix's Christmas content since appearing in The Princess Switch last year, leads the cast as Brooke, who Hudgens describes in an Entertainment Weekly interview as, "A strong, independent woman who believes that you don't need a knight in shining armor to save the day, and that you can get things done yourself...but, she ends up meeting an actual knight."
That knight is Sir Cole, played by Poldark's Josh Whitehouse who somehow has landed in 21st century America from 14th century Norwich in the U.K. just in time for Christmas. Though the bulk of the movie focuses on the romance between the pair, the movie also features supporting performances from Emmanuelle Chriqui as Brooke's sister Madison, while in some historical flashback we meet fellow knight Sir Geoffrey, portrayed by Harry Jarvis.

What will happen in The Knight Before Christmas?
The official Netflix synopsis for the film reads: "A medieval English knight is magically transported to the present day where he falls for a high school science teacher who is disillusioned by love."
Comparing the film to The Princess Switch, Hudgens told PopSugar: "Obviously, the concept is completely different. It is another high-concept love story — with Switch it's twins, and with this, it's a time-travelling knight — but the character herself was something that was really appealing to me. She's a strong, logical, intelligent young woman who, at the end of the day, is looking for love but isn't someone that needs to be rescued."
Speaking about appearing in her second holiday movie, she added: "I was really excited by the idea of being a staple in people's home for the holidays...If I can be a part of bringing families together at a time that can be difficult and allow them a little escapism or inspiration, I think that's just a wonderful and beautiful thing to be."

What the trailer reveals about The Knight Before Christmas?
In the promo, released earlier in November, we learn that Brooke and Cole meet after she nearly runs him over in her car after he is teleported to modern day American after stepping into some mysterious blue mist.
In the trailer, we also see Sir Cole baffled by modern inventions like radio, car keys and sun roofs. Those who were worried that this movie's central hunk would spend the whole film in bulky armour are also sure to be comforted, meanwhile, by a good old fashioned but of gratuitous male toplessness as the knight changes into modern clothes.
